Khi chuyển từ công thức gốc A of/ for B sang sở hữu cách, ta làm như sau:
Đối tượng sở hữu (B) + ‘s + Đối tượng bị sở hữu (A) [1]
Hoặc Đối tượng sở hữu (B) + ‘ + Đối tượng bị sở hữu (A) [2]
Ghi chú:
Cấu trúc [1] ta dùng trong trường hợp đối tượng sở hữu (B) ở dạng số ít hoặc danh từ
số nhiều bất quy tắc: children’s hat, men’s hat, women’s hat
Cấu trúc [2] ta dùng trong trường hợp đối tượng sở hữu (B) ở số nhiều có quy tắc
(danh từ kết thúc bằng s hoặc es)
Ví dụ: girls’ hat; boys’ ball
Phân tích ví dụ: the ball of the boy
Mình có:
 A: Đối tượng bị sở hữu : the ball
 B: Đối tượng sở hữu vật A: the boy
Áp dụng công thức sở hữu cách: the boy’s ball
