INTRODUCTION

Hello kids! Today we are going to talk about demonstrative

pronouns. You've probably heard the question: What'sthis? or What's that?
Now, it is time to understand the difference between this and that and how
to use them in English. We are also going to learn the plural form of the
demonstrative pronouns this andthat which are these and those. Let’s find
out how far you can pointor indicate things as you go along in this module.

DISCUSSION

Now let us learn about demonstrative pronouns. A

demonstrative pronoun is mainly used “to point out” persons or things.
First let us compare the usage of this and that.
Are you ready kids? Let’s try to find out the different usage of this and
that. What do you use when pointing to one object or person near you?
What do you use when pointing to object or person far from you?

Look at the following pictures. Point out the distance if thefollowing

"This" and "that" are in the singular form used to indicate a person,
object or situation.

 Now, let us talk about the things you see using These are and Those
are. These/those are the plural forms of this/that, and they areused in the
same way.

We use These are when the speaker is holding or is near two or more
persons, objects, or places being pointed at.

near

These are mangoes.

We use Those are when the speaker is pointing at two or more

persons, objects, or places far from him or her.

far

Those are mangoes.

 When do we use these are and those are? “These “and “those “areplural
form used to indicate people, objects and situations.

Those are my books.
