Chapter IV

Results and Discussion

The study was conducted on 60 total respondents to across 4 grade 12 sections on STI college Ormoc.
The respondents of the study were asked to evaluate the effectivity of the glue made from jackfruit
through a binary survey questionnaire. A total of 660 responses were gathered from the survey. To
determine if the product is effective, the researchers used a One Sample Proportion test with a level of
significance of 0.05 and a claim (P) of 85% which is the percentage which determines the effectivity of
the product from the hypothesis. (Ho: P = 85%, Ha: P ≠ 85%)

Number of responses
To quantify the responses of the respondents and be suitable for the data processing procedure, the
researchers totaled the responses from the binary survey.

Question Yes No
1 54 6
2 60 0
3 56 4
4 55 5
5 58 2
6 52 8
7 44 16
8 51 9
9 44 16
10 54 6
11 59 1
Total 587 73
Table 1: Total Responses

Table 1 shows the total responses of the respondents from the binary survey, which shows that out of
the 660 responses gathered; 587 responded with Yes, while 73 responded with No.
One Sample Proportion Test
To determine if the Artocarpus Heterophyllus is a effective alternative ingredient in producing glue, the
researchers used a One Sample Proportion Test in finding the quantitative results of the research.

These amounts are the givens in the data processing:

P (Claim) = 0.85 (85%)

Number of Success (Yes Responses) = 587

Sample Size (n) = 660

p̂ (P hat) = 0.889393939 (587/660)

a (Level of Significance) = 0.05

Z-test

To find out if the ingredient is indeed effective, the researchers use the Z-test to find the Z score and
compare it to the Z critical using the following formula:

Numerator = p̂ - P

= 0.889393939 - 0.85

= 0.039393939

Denominator/standard deviation of the sampling distribution =

= √0.85 (1 – 0.85) / 660

= 0.013898986

Z-score = Numerator/Denominator

= 0.039393939/0.013898986

= 2.834303074

The research z-score is equal to 2.834303074. To determine the effectivity of the ingredient from the
amount, it must be compared to the Z critical of the data.
Z Critical = Absolute value (Return the inverse of the standard normal cumulative distribution
(NORM.S.INV) of 0.025 (0.05/2)

= 1.959963985

The Z Critical amounts to 1.959963985. Due to the Z-score (2.834303074) having a larger amount than
the Z Critical value (1.959963985), thus we reject the null hypothesis and retain the alternative
hypothesis based on these results.

Two Tailed Test

To further support the claim of the null hypothesis being rejected, the researchers used a two tailed test
using the Z-score (2.834303074).

P Value (left tail) 0.997703712 NORM.S.DIST(2.834303074,Cumulative.TRUE)

P value (right tail) 0.002296288 1-NORM.S.DIST(2.834303074,Cumulative.TRUE)
P value (two tail) 0.004592575 2*(1-NORM.S.DIST((2.834303074,Cumulative.TRUE))
Table 2: Two Tailed test

Based on the results shown, the P value - two tail (0.004592575) is less than the level of significance
(0.05) which means that the study does still reject the null hypothesis.

Cofidence Interval
To visualize the data gathered, the researchers provides a normal distribution chart based on the data
gathered and its confidence interval which is the formula below.

Lower: 0.862152427

Upper: 0.916635452

Mean: 0.889393

SD: 0.013898

Area (Level of significance): 0.05
