Sodium bicarbonate react with acetic acid to form water, carbon dioxide
and sodium acetate
1. Please write the balanced chemical equation including its
state
2. Please define the limiting reactants of:
a. Sodium bicarbonate 2 g and 0,050 mol acetic acid

NaHCO3 = 2/84 = 0.02 / 1 = 0.02 mol (smaller)

Acetic Acid = 0.05 / 1 = 0.05 mol

Limiting reagent = NaHCO3

b. Sodium bicarbonate 4 g and 0,050 mol acetic acid

NaHCO3 = 4/84 = 0.04 / 1 = 0.04 mol (smaller)
Acetic Acid = 0.05 / 1 = 0.05 mol
Limiting reagent = NaHCO3

c. Sodium bicarbonate 6 g and 0,050 mol acetic acid

NaHCO3 = 6/84 = 0.07 / 1 = 0.07 mol
Acetic Acid = 0.05 / 1 = 0.05 mol (smaller)

Limiting reagent = CH3COOH

d. Sodium bicarbonate 8 g and 0,050 mol acetic acid

NaHCO3 = 8/84 = 0.09 / 1 = 0.09 mol
Acetic Acid = 0.05 / 1 = 0.05 mol (smaller)

Limiting reagent = CH3COOH

How is the relationship between moles and volume?

According to the experiment, with a constant Pressure and Temperature,

the relationship between moles and volume is linear, meaning the more
molecules there are, the more the volume. However, in the experiment
done, the factor limiting the volume is the limiting reactant molecule.
This corresponds to the avogadro’s law:
