ICMAB Skill Development Program (SDP)

Background of the Program:
Skill development refers to the identification of skill gaps
and developing the existing skills to enable a person
to achieve his/her goals. It is important because skills
determine an individuals’ ability to execute plans with
success. The current generation of ICMAB students need
to develop more the necessary skills to cope up with the
skills demanded by the industry.
SDP (Skill Development Program), an around 200 Session
Training Program initiated and run by the Training
Department of ICMAB in the year 2020, will address the
demand and ensure targeted Skill development to help prospective students
to get easier access to the formal job market where they can bargain for higher
incomes, work under more congenial working conditions and have greater job
security.
Skill Areas Need Development
As per primary assessment, students of ICMAB at different levels need specific
skill development training under four different streams furnished here under:
Stream I: FRAS
The Financial Reporting & Accounting Standards help measure the performance
of the management of an entity. It can help measure the management ‘s ability
to increase profitability, maintain the solvency of the firm, and other such
important financial duties of the management.

Stream II: ROPS
Official etiquette is the forms, manners, and ceremonies established by
convention as acceptable or required in social relations, in a profession, or in
official life. Learning practical skill will help students develop the aspects of real-
life knowledge.

Stream III: CRIM
Career Counselling is a process that helps to know and understand oneself
and the world of work in order to make career, educational, and life decisions.
Career development is more than just deciding on a major and what job you

Stream IV: MST
Technology proficiency is the ability to use technology to communicate
effectively and professionally, organize information and enhance thinking skills.

The Institute of Cost and management accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) is

entrusted with the formulation and implementation of National Accounting as
well as Cost Accounting Standards in Bangladesh. In view of that reforming the
profession is about responding to developments and changing how we operate.
It is also important that we revitalize the profession – reinvigorate and reenergize
it. We must inspire and support our members to look forward, to prepare for the
opportunities available, and to develop the skills needed for success. In the fast-
changing world, it is vital the Institute remains seen as the voice of Bangladesh’s
accounting profession. In light of it, our training department has been arranging
time demanded trainings for ICMAB members and students.
As President of ICMAB, I am deeply grateful to the leadership of our Institute and

other units for their smart and careful priority setting, and their creativity in making
space for innovation in the methods of modern training. Together, we will continue
working to confront our shared challenges and make the important investments
necessary to advance our training and innovation. I am amazed by the seemingly
limitless energy and ideas of our extraordinary leadership and the dedicated and

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the training department of ICMAB

and to extend my best wishes for an enviable success in all our training endeavors.
Our journey of contributing to the skill development Program for the students
and members of ICMAB as a weapon to combat in the competitive market has
been started from 2021. While the road thus has been travelled far is found full
of learning’s and satisfying achievements, a lot more remains to be done in the
years ahead. Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of our nation’s economic
growth and social development. Bangladesh has been facing severe shortages of
well trained and skilled workers.
Our Training Department since inception has been focused on training in the
domains of Digital skill. Our skill training programs have accelerated into most
of our members and students getting decent jobs paving their career paths. We
also have experienced great satisfaction in having trained batches of digital skilled
benchmarked to global standards with jobs overseas. We have decided to transform
a holistic approach into a multi-skilling department by entering into new domains as
we go forward in our journey.
Our vision for Skill Development Program (SDP) under ICMAB is to be Bangladesh’s
premier institute in skill development by imparting high quality training, enhancing
employability, fostering talent development and aspirations with multidisciplinary
perspectives through centers of excellence.
Our training programs will be offered both at our own centers of excellence and
also through our strongly enabled network of franchisees for Bangladesh. We
shall provide a seamless framework for implementing skilling development which
includes trainees’ mobilization, developing training curriculum aligned to industry
requirements and benchmarked with best practices, effective training delivery,
providing gainful employment to meet aspirations and career advancements of
trainees. Our skill development training programs will also aim to support the
weaker and underprivileged groups of ICMAB specially students through focused
outreach programs and targeted skill development initiatives.

Webinar on IFRS 17: Insurance Contracts for the Students,

Qualified CMAs and Members of ICMAB.
The Training Department of ICMAB has organized a Webinar on IFRS 17: Insurance
Contracts on December 25, 2022 for Students, Qualified CMAs, Members of
ICMAB under the Skill Development Program (SDP).
IFRS 17 is a new Accounting Standard which will be effective from January 01, 2023.
The objective of IFRS 17 is to ensure that an entity provides relevant information
that faithfully represents those contracts. This information gives a basis for users
of financial statements to assess the effect that insurance contracts have on the
entity’s financial position, financial performance and cash flows.
The purpose of the Webinar is to inform Students, Qualified CMAs, Members of
ICMAB about different aspects of IFRS 17: Insurance Contracts.
A good number of Students and Members actively participated in the 02 (two)
hours long Webinar.

IAS-IFRS Quiz Contest-2022

The Training Department of ICMAB has arranged
IAS-IFRS Quiz Contest-2022 for its students &
Qualified CMAs. The Contestants were divided into
4 groups corresponding with 4 levels (Intermediate
Level-I, Intermediate Level-II, Advanced Level-I &
Advanced Level-II) of CMA Curriculum-2022. Total
115 participants competed in four groups. Prior to the
contest, the Training Department, for the first time in
the history of ICMAB, also arranged 9 SDP training
programs covering 40 IAS-IFRS in 80 sessions (1-hour
30 minute each) for its students.
The contest had 3 layers such as Screening Round, Final Round-1 (Fantastic Fifty)
and Final Round-2 (Tremendous Twenty-Four). The Screening Round was held on
November 6, 2022 and 97 contestants were qualified for the next level. The Final
Round-1 (Fantastic Fifty) was held on November 7, 2022 and 74 contestants were
qualified for the next level. Finally, the Final Round-2 (Tremendous Twenty-Four)
was held on November 8, 2022 and 12 contestants were selected winners in four
groups as Champion, First Runner-Up & Second Runner-Up in each group.

On the occasion of “International Accounting Day-2022”, the winners of the IAS-

IFRS Quiz Contest were awarded with Cash Prizes, Crests, Medals and Certificates
of Participation at ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium, Nilkhet, Dhaka. Professor Dr.
Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka handed over the awards
to the winners as Chief Guest. Moreover, 58 finalists were also awarded Medals and
Certificates of Participation on the same day.
Professor Dr. Zakaria Masud FCMA, Academic Director of ICMAB along with other
full-time faculty members conducted the IAS-IFRS Quiz Contest-2022 as resource
person.
Mr. Ali Haider Chowdhury FCMA and Mr. Arifur Rahman Meethu FCMA Chairman
and Vice Chairman respectively of the Training Committee closely supervised the
whole IAS-IFRS Quiz Contest-2022 to make it a grand success.

The Training Department of ICMAB has arranged
Presentation Competition 2022 (PreCom-2022)
for its students & Qualified CMAs. The Contestants
were divided into 4 groups. Groups are Microsoft
PowerPoint, Dashboard in Excel, Dynamic
Charting Techniques and Dashboard in Power
BI. Prior to the contest, the Training Department
arranged several SDP training programs on the
said topics.
The competition had 3 layers such as Screening
Round, Final Round-1 (Fantastic Fifty) and Final
Round-2 (Tremendous Twenty-Four). The Screening Round were held on December
13, 2022 and 85 contestants were qualified for the next level. The Final Round-1
(Fantastic Fifty) was held on December 15, 2022 and 63 contestants were qualified
for the next level. Finally, the Final Round-2 (Tre-mendous Twenty-Four) was held
on December 18, 2022 and 12 contestants were selected win-ners in four groups
as Champion, First Runner-Up & Second Runner-Up in each group.

(Finance & Controlling)” was for

The Training Department of
ICMAB has organized an SDP
training on “SAP FI-CO (Finance &
Controlling)” on 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18,
22, 25 & 29 November and 3, 6, 9, 13, 16, 20 & 23 December 2022 for Students,
Qualified CMAs, Members of ICMAB and for other interested External Individuals/
Institutional participants.
The objective of the training program is to teach participants about how ERP
(Enterprise Resource Planning) systems are used in daily business operation, SAP
ERP (FI & CO): Full Operation, SAP ERP (MM, SD, PP & HCM): Essentials and the
use of SAP ERP Financial for getting a good job.
Introduction to SAP and a simplified Case Study of a company; Familiarization with

SAP Terminologies; Account receivable Configuration and SD process (SO, Delivery
& Billing); Accounts Payable and MM Process; Fixed Assets; Banking Functions;
Design Financial Statement Version; Controlling (CO-Management Accounting) are
the topics covered by the said training.
A total of 36 (thirty-six) participants registered and actively participated in the 16
(sixteen) days long training sessions, where 26 (twenty-six) were students of the
Institute, 08 (eight) were members of the Institute and rest 02 (two) were external
participants.
It was 02 (two) months long training program with 3 (three) Months Servar Access
for practice. Mr. Azimul Hossain ACMA and Mr. Mojahidul Islam ACMA conducted
the training sessions as resource persons.
A certificate giving ceremony was arranged on 23 December 2022 where Mr. Md.
Ali Haider Chowdhury FCMA, treasurer of the Institute and chairman of training
committee along with Mr. Arifur Rahman Meethu FCMA, vice- chairman of training
committee handed over the certificates among the participants.
