Science: Circulatory System


1. What is the circulatory system made up of?
• It’s made up of the heart and blood vessels.

2. What is the role of the circulatory system?


The circulatory system:
• transports oxygen and nutrients to the body by blood.
• takes away carbon dioxide gas and wastes from the body.

3. What are the 3 different types of blood vessels?


• Arteries:
They are the blood vessels that carry the blood away from
the heart.
• Veins:
They are the blood vessels that carry blood to the heart.
• Capillaries:
They are thin blood vessels that connect the arteries to the veins and allow exchange of
materials between the blood and the organs.

4. What makes our heart stronger?


• We should exercise, laugh and eat healthy non-fatty foods, to avoid having
cholesterol that blocks our blood vessels, to have a healthy strong heart.

5. What is our blood made up of?


It is made up of plasma and cells.
Plasma: It is a yellowish liquid made up mainly of water.
Red blood cells: carry oxygen to all the body cells.
White blood cells: They protect the body by killing germs.
Platelets: They are cells that stick together to form a clot to stop bleeding.
