WEEK 11 ACTIVITY

1. Is curriculum evaluation inherently flawed? Why/Why Not?

2. Is it important to align the curriculum evaluation model to the curriculum being evaluated?
Why/Why Not?
3. What is the effect of standards and accountability on curriculum evaluation?

Answers:
1. Curriculum evaluation is a complex process that involves examining the impact of implemented
curriculum on student achievement so that the official curriculum can be revised if necessary
and to review teaching and learning process in the classroom. While it is not inherently flawed,
it has been criticized for being unreliable and reflecting student’s biases.
2. Yes, it is important to align the curriculum evaluation model to the curriculum being evaluated
because it shows that curriculum alignments have a strong correlation to student achievement.
3. Accountability systems can have an effect on curriculum, standards and engagement in
education. Accountability systems should have defined duties, coherent and aligned objectives
at all levels, and clear performance assessment standards to support school effectiveness.
Accountability measures can either increase or decrease the achievement gap; it all depends on
how they are implemented.
