REFLECTION

Throughout the school year, I had the opportunity to teach an English class with a diverse
group of pupils. As the year ends, I find it valuable to reflect on the teaching strategies I
employed to evaluate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

One of the strengths of my teaching approach was the emphasis on student-centered

learning. I encouraged active participation through class discussions, group activities, and
project-based assessments. Pupils seemed more engaged and motivated to learn when they
were given the opportunity to explore historical events from different perspectives. However, I
noticed that some quieter pupils might have felt overwhelmed during large group discussions.
In the future, I will implement more strategies to ensure that all pupils feel comfortable
participating and sharing their ideas.

I incorporated an inquiry-based approach, where pupils were encouraged to ask

questions and research historical topics independently. This approach helped foster critical
thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. However, I should have
provided clearer guidance and scaffolding for those pupils who struggled with formulating
research questions and locating reliable sources. Next year, I plan to offer more structured
guidance to support pupils through the inquiry process.

To cater to the digital-native generation, I integrated various educational technologies

into the classroom. Online research tools, multimedia presentations, and virtual field trips
enhanced the learning experience. Nevertheless, I observed that not all pupils were equally
proficient in using technology for educational purposes. In the future, I will conduct a technology
skills assessment at the beginning of the year to identify pupils who may need additional support.

Regular formative assessments were conducted to monitor student progress. However, I

believe I could have provided more timely and personalized feedback on their work. I will
explore using digital tools that facilitate quicker grading and individualized feedback, enabling
pupils to make improvements in real-time.

While I aimed to differentiate instruction based on student needs, I recognize that there
were instances where I could have done better. I will strive to implement a wider range of
instructional strategies to cater to diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests.

Maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment was a priority. However, I

noticed that certain disruptions persisted. Reflecting on this, I will be more proactive in
establishing clear expectations for behavior and reinforcing positive conduct. Moreover,
building stronger teacher-student relationships may help reduce instances of disruptive
behavior.

Reflecting on my teaching strategies has been a valuable exercise, allowing me to

recognize both strengths and areas for improvement. Student-centered learning, inquiry-based
approaches, technology integration, formative assessment, and differentiated instruction have
been successful to varying degrees. Moving forward, I will build on these strengths and address
the identified weaknesses to create an even more engaging and effective learning experience
for my pupils. I look forward to implementing these improvements in the next academic year
and continuing to grow as an educator.
