( AT VII,p. 17) ①
而上学真理” ( AT I,pp. 137 - 138,144 - 145; cf. Marion,1999,pp. 20 - 22) 。
笛卡尔为 什 么 会 多 次 拒 绝 过 多 讨 论 形 而 上 学 问 题 呢 ? ( cf. AT V,p. 165; AT III,pp. 691 - 693;
张,仍然包含了从托马斯到苏亚雷斯的经院哲学传统的回响。 ( cf. Gilson,1913,1930,2006; Marion,1982;
Courtine,pp. 482 - 495; Carraud,ch. 1 - 2)

( AT VI,pp. 13 - 14)
( AT VII,p. 481)
( AT VII,pp. 35 - 36)
( AT III,pp. 691 - 693)

Adopting the image of light to refer to the Supreme Being and ideal person is common both in Western
and Eastern philosophy. However,Laozi and Zhuangzi have many unique interpretations in this respect.
Firstly, both of them prefer to stress the dark aspect of Tao in order to shield the growth of the natural beings
from the harm of the dazzling light of the Supreme Being. In this sense,“living with light ”is a visual
expression of “Laozi’s notion that the Tao follows nature”. Secondly,by practicing inner-observation and
keeping mental silence,Laozi and Zhuangzi believe that one can understand the brilliance of light so as to
achieve an enlightened mind, although the two sages offer different accounts,i. e. ,Zhuangzi stresses the
supernatural spirit more while Laozi argues for the self-enlightenment of political reason. Lastly,in comparison
to the dark aspect of Tao,Laozi and Zhuangzi maintain that the politicians should follow the rule of “light
without dazzling harm”to avoid the disturbance of the common people’s lifestyles. Therefore, the Taoist ideal
of keeping a light free from dazzling harm is a wise correction to Confucianism ’s doctrine of light for
illuminating values.
Zhao Tingyang
This paper attempts to establish a new metaphysics and analyzes the original questions of philosophy,
ontological events, the invention of negation, the invention of possibilities, the historicity of the order of
beings,and coexistence prior to existence.
Li Meng
The “new plan ” of modern metaphysics attempted by Descartes in Meditations on First Philosophy
surmounted difficulties in the methodological path he had pursued in his early years. Through the metaphysical
doubt“once and for all”and its negation,it provides a new foundation for the new sciences and their cognitive
principles on an inexperienceable cognitive point.
Sun Xiangchen
Both Levinas and Zhao Tingyang share a vision “from the outside”of the West, and a comprehensive
reflection on and critique of the tradition of ontology in Western philosophy. This constitutes the basis of the
“dialogue”between them. This gesture of “dialogue”does not assume a higher universality that encompasses
them, but rather allows them to maintain their original theoretical“positions”. They have both similar analyses
and deep-rooted differences with regard to the definition of the Western ontological tradition, the way to face
others, the meaning of freedom, and the place of ethics, which provide a basis for us to compare them. Both
attempt to overcome Western ontology and offer different theoretical directions, which is what is expected in a
global age.
