What I’m looking for (WILF)
1. Pupils can work in pairs to take turns to be Pupil A and Pupil B to answer questions about 4

2. Pupils can write a paragraph of about 50-80 words.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils discuss the 3 questions in Activity 1 in their textbook page 39 in pairs.
PRE-LESSON
2. A few pairs share their discussion with the class.
3. Pupils discuss as a class what sort of language can be used to compare and describe photos, and a list
is written on the board (ex: Both photos show, The photos have…)
4. Pupils read the instructions and phrases in Activity 2 to clarify any difficult vocab.
5. Pupils categorize 8 phrases into 2; either could be used to compare 2 photos or describe 1 photo at a
time.
6. Pupils discuss answers as a class.
7. Pupils read the information in Download Box and a few pupils are later chosen to explain the tip in his
or her own words.
8. Pupils read the Language Box and the instructions for Activity 3.
9. Pupils work in pairs to take turns to be Pupil A and Pupil B to answer questions about 4 photographs
using the words and phrases in the Language Box.(Main Skill)
LESSON DEVELOPMENT
10. A few pairs demonstrate their discussion with the class.
11. Pupils choose either photos A and B or C and D and write a paragraph of about 50-80 words
answering the question ‘what are the advantages of each sport’ and ‘why do you think each sport is
popular’. (Complementary Skill)
12. Pupils create appropriate comparison sentences and to focus in particular on correct spelling.
13. If time allows, pupils swap paragraphs and check each other’s spelling.
Differentiated Actvities:
Less proficient pupils: Provide cards with the appropriate language mirrored in the lesson and the language
of comparison from Activity 2 or the Language Bank. For the writing activity, provide some ideas and ask
them to add a few of their own.
More proficient pupils: -
14. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by working in pairs to look at the questions in Activity 4.
POST-LESSON
15. Pupils are given 5 minutes to think of some ideas and later a short class discussion is held.
