GAMES OF TENSES
1. Matching game
You will need:

- Index card

- Pen and pencil (red and blue)

Using index card and pen, written the present simple tense and past simple tense of different
words with one word on each card.

Some examples include play, played, ran run and saw, see. Blue pen will be used to write
present tense verb and red pen to write past tense verds, so that each set of matching words
has blue word and one red.

Mix up cards and put them into a hat. Invite students to pick out the cards one by one and
read each word aloud.

Once a card has been read loud, place them face-up on a hard surface. When the hat is
empty, ask students to match each blue card to the corrected card.

2. Past tenses slap

You will need:

Give students a Squeaky toy. The teacher tells a story set in past . However, during Story
telling the teacher will make mistakes with some of the verbs (e.g. one day the frog eat the
princess, the student will correct the sentence by saying one day the frog eaten the
princess). Each time the teacher a mistake the student need you squeeze their Squeaky toy
to make a noise and then correct the teacher.

4. Quiz

You will need:

- Card templates

The students will be divided into pairs. The teacher will take card templates that will contain
sixteen sentence like she …… up early for work (wake). Students will pick up one of the card
templates and figure out the missing tense for the sentence to make sense.

5. Shout out /act it out

You will need:

-Paper

-enough classroom space

The teacher will cut up pages 1-2 of verb cards. One student comes up to the front of the
class. The student will choose a verb card from pile. That same student then tries to act the
verb that is written on the card no speaking is allowing only actions will be allowed. The
student who knows the answer to the actions words being acted up in front of the class rides
his or her hand and shouts the verb. For example, he will wash his hair.

6. Spin the bottle

You will need:

- Plastic bottle
- Chairs
- Table

Students will be sitting around the table. The teacher is the one who will be spinning the
bottle. When the bottle is pointing a student, that pointed student will give out sentence in
simple present tense. All students will be given a chance and the last student standing will
be the one who manag4d to answer whenever the bottle is pointed at him or her.

7. I say, you do

Divide students into two groups. One group say out the action word and the other group acts
it out. The group that managed to get most of the verbs correct they win the game.

8. Pick an object and make a sentence/pick and create

You will need:

- Box full of stationary

There will be stationary placed in a box . Each learner at a count of three they will pick any
object and make a sentence in past simple or future simple tense. For example, if a student
picked a pen she or he will make a sentence using future simple tense, I will write my notes
using a black pen.. The student who managed to construct a sentence perfectly she or he
will receive a reward which is a candy.

9. Hot potato

You will need:

-music

-Ball

Teacher will paly some music. Students stand in a circle and throw the ball to each other in a
random order. The teacher will stop the music at random time, while facing away from the
students. The student holding the ball when the music stops, will give out a sentence in any
tense. The last student standing will receive a storybook as a reward.
