Waste Management : is the collection, transport, processing or disposal, managing and monitoring of waste
materials. The process is undertaken to reduce their effect on health and environment. The management of
wastes treats all materials such as solid, liquid or gaseous substances.

Waste Management Procedures and Techniques

1.Waste Segregation – the process of dividing garbage and waste products in an effort to reduce, re-use and
recycle materials.

2. Waste Reduction- is the minimization of wasteful consumption of goods.

3. Re-use is the process of recovering materials intended for some purpose without changing their physical
and chemical appearance.

4. Recycling- is the treatment of waste materials through a process of making them suitable for beneficial use
and other purposes.

5.Composting – is the controlled decomposition of organic matter by microorganism mainly bacteria and fungi
into a humus like product.

6. Waste Disposal – refers to the proper discharge of any solid waste or any land.

Guide Questions:

1.What part of the body is affected if there is negligence of practicing waste management?
2. What is the difference between physical and chemical appearance that is being pertained in the re-
use process?
3.What kind of material that can be recycled? Re-use?

(Indicator 1: Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching.)

(Indicator 3: Applied range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking as well as other
higher-order thinking skills.)

APPLICATION

In this activity, the learners will have to choose their preferred activity regardless of their gender.
(GAD)
Group 1: Waste Segregation
Using the trashes and garbages inside the box, segregate according to its beneficial use if it can
be waste reduction, re-use and recyclable materials. Present the output with explanation.
Group 2: Waste Reduction
Make your own postermaking/slogan that shows proper waste management.
Group 3: Re-use
Using the materials in front, choose which materials is intended for re-use and explain it into
the class.
Group 4: Recycle
Using the materials in front, choose which material can be used to recycle and choose a
representative to present and explain the outcome.
Group 5: Composting and Waste Disposal
Site an examples of composting and waste disposal and make it a song.

If some of the class find doesn’t have their interest in the choices, they can choose the following:
1.writing a poem or essay based on the topic.
Etc.
After the instructions given, the teacher allow the class to read the rubrics on how they are being
graded. (Activity will be given 15 mins time allotted)

(Indicator 4: Managed classroom structure to engage learners, individually or in groups, in meaningful

exploration, discovery and hands-on activities within a range of physical learning environments.)
(Indicator 5: Managed learner behavior constructively by applying positive and non-violent discipline to
ensure learning-focused environments.)
(Indicator 6: Used differentiated, developmentally appropriate learning experiences to address learners’
gender, needs, strengths, interests and experiences.)
