BSCE-3B
ENGINEERING UTILITIES (CEA-132)
ASSIGNMENT 1

1. Explain the relevance of the Master Plumber’s Code of Ethics.

- The Master Plumber's Code of Ethics is a crucial set of rules that engineers should
adhere to. The highest engineering standards are encouraged by it. The level of
plumbing and mechanical services would be raised by abiding by the master
plumber's code of conduct. This goal is to uphold standards of conduct appropriate for
his or her line of work and to maintain a professional demeanor consistent with an
honorable and dignified pursuit of a career.

2. What are the conditions that a permit will be issued to an applicant?

- As required by Republic Act No. 1378, as amended, you must first be a Registered
and Licensed Master Plumber with a current, undated, and unrevoked registration
certificate in order to proceed. After that, on behalf of the building owner for whom the
work is to be done, a Registered and Licensed Master Plumber should submit an
application at the Building Official's Office and complete the necessary paperwork.
Each application must specify the plumbing work that will be covered by the particular
permit it is submitted for. Additionally, a legal description of the location where the
anticipated plumbing work will be done is required.
description, street location, or other comparable description that would make it simple
to recognize and identify the proposed construction or work. Additionally, the applicant
needs to state what kind of habitation the requested plumbing repair is for. Every
document needs to be signed by the owner or permittee, who is also required to show
authorization. A master plumber who is both registered and licensed must sign it as
well. The application must also be accompanied with plans, drawings, diagrams,
calculations, technical specifications, and other materials. a licensed and registered
All plumbing plans, drawings, diagrams, design analyses/computations, technical
specifications, bills of materials, and other required documentation for all types of
occupancies must be created, signed, and sealed by a Master Plumber.
3. When will a permit expire or become null and void?
- If the plumbing work specified in the plumbing permit is not finished within a year of
the date of the permit, or if it is suspended or abandoned after being started for 120
days, the plumbing permit issued in accordance with the provisions of this code will
expire and be void. In addition, if a permit was granted inadvertently, based on false
information provided, or in violation of any laws, rules, or regulations, the
Administrative Authority may suspend or cancel it.

4. Discuss or explain Section 306 of the Revised Plumbing Code of the Philippines.
- Damage to the drainage system or public sewer is covered in Section 306. It states
that it is forbidden for anyone to put anything that would or might harm the drainage
system or public sewer into any plumbing fixture, floor drain, interceptor, sump,
container, or device connected to the excreta and storm drainage systems, public
sewer, private sewer, septic tank, or cesspool. For instance, you should never dump a
large amount of debris into a public sewer or drainage system since it could obstruct
the flow and cause damage. The same holds true if you add gases or explosive
substances to it that could result in an accident like an explosion. Rags, cinders, and
combustible materials that could harm the drainage system or public sewers include
toxic liquids, gases, oils, and greases. Rainfall drains on roofs, inner courts, vent
shafts, light wells, or other such sites must discharge outside of the structure or to the
gutter and cannot be connected to the soil or waste pipe systems, according to
Section 306.
5. Discuss comprehensively the importance and applications of Plumbing Course to
Civil Engineering Profession. Make an infographics.
6. How is the application for permit done? Describe the procedure.
- A registered and licensed Master Plumber must submit an application on behalf of
the building owner for whom the work is to be done at the office of the building official
and must complete the paperwork made available for that purpose.

- Every application shall: Identify and describe the plumbing work to be covered by the
permit for which an application is made;
● Describe the land upon which the proposed plumbing work is to be done, legal
description, street address or similar description hat will readily identify and
locate the proposed building or work;
● Indicate the use of occupancy for which the proposed plumbing work is
intended;
● Be accompanied by plans, drawings, diagrams, computations, technical
specifications, and other data;
● Give such other data and information as required by the Administrative
Authority;
● Be signed by Owner or permittee, who is required to submit evidence to
indicate such authority; and
● Be signed and sealed by the Registered and Licensed Master Plumber.

7. Enumerate and explain the factors to be considered in applying for existing

plumbing system.
❖ Additions, Alterations or Repairs - may be made to any existing plumbing
system provided the addition, alteration or repair works conform to
requirements for a new plumbing system. Additions, alteration or repairs shall
not render and existing system unsafe, unsanitary or overloaded.
❖ Changes in Building Occupancy - Plumbing systems which are a part of any
building or structure undergoing a change in use or occupancy, as defined in
the National Building Code, shall comply with all requirements of this Code
applicable to the changed use or occupancy.
❖ Maintenance - All plumbing system, materials and appurtenances, both
existing and new, and all parts thereof shall be maintained in proper operating
condition. All devices or safeguards required by this Code shall be maintained
in conformance with the existing Code edition at the time the plumbing system
was installed. The owner or his designated agent shall be responsible for the
maintenance of the plumbing system. To determine compliance with this
subsection, the Administrative Authority may cause the re-inspection of any
plumbing system.
❖ Moved Buildings - Plumbing systems, which are part of buildings or structures
in one place and moved into another Jurisdiction, shall comply with the
provisions of this Code for new installation.
8. Explain the different prohibited fittings and practices under the Revised Plumbing
Code of the Philippines.
Give examples/pictures.
- No double hub fitting for lead-caulked joint in vertical position, single or double tee
branch, single or double tapped tee branch, side inlet quarter bend, running thread,
band or saddle shall be used as a drainage fitting, except that a double hub sanitary
tapped tee may be used on vertical lines as a fixture connection. (Approved stainless
steel bands with neoprene gaskets for jointing of hub less cast-iron soil pipes are
acceptable for use.)

- No drainage or vent piping shall be drilled and tapped for making connections there
to and no cast iron soil shall be threaded.
- No water connection shall be made to a closet bend or stub of a water closet or
similar fixtures.

- No vent pipe shall be used as a soil or waste pipe, nor shall any soil or waste pipe
be used as a vent. Also, single drainage and venting systems with unvented branch
lines are prohibited.
- No fitting, fixture and piping connections, appliance, device or method of installation
which obstructs or retards the flow of water, sewage or air in the excreta and storm
drainage and venting systems in an amount greater than the normal frictional
resistance to flow, shall be used.

9. Define a home plumbing system. What are its basic parts? Describe how it works
and give isometric drawings.
- A plumbing system includes all portable water supply and distribution pipes, all
plumbing fixtures and traps, all sanitary and storm drainage systems, vent pipes, roof
drains, leaders and downspouts; and all building drains and sewers, including their
respective joints and connections, devices, receptacles, and appurtenances with the
property; water lines in the premises: potable, tap, hot and chilled water piping’s;
potable water treating or using equipment; fuel gas piping; water heaters and vents for
same.

- A regular home plumbing system has three basic parts: a water supply system, a
fixture and appliance set of lines and a drain system
Water Supply System - Fresh water generally, comes from one of the two
resources; either a municipality or a private well. If a municipality supply the
water, there will be a meter between the avenue and the house.
Fixtures and Appliances Set of Lines - the main water supply line enters the
house, it branches off to the water heater. From there, it runs parallel with cold
water line plus brings water to fixtures and as well as appliances all through the
house. Fixtures include sinks, bathtubs, showers plus, laundry areas.
Appliances include water heaters, clothes washers, dishwashers and water
softeners. Faucets and valves regulate water supplies to fixtures plus
appliances

Drain System – Water waste passes through a drain trap; a U-shaped pipe
which holds standing water and averts sewer gases from entering the house.
The drain system works with help of gravity allowing waste water to flow
downhill through a chain of gradually increasing sets of pipes. The drain pipes
are connected to a chain of vent pipes. The vent pipes provide fresh air to the
drain system therefore preventing any problem that could impede or even
prevent drain water from flowing freely
10. Provide other isometric diagrams/drawings of plumbing installations. Label
properly.
