Model lesson plan

Subject: social studies Class: IV


Topic: Making wind vane
Previous Knowledge: Students know what is wind vane.
Teaching learning materials: chart, clue, string, scissors, ruler, pencil, cardboard, smooth
stick, direction compass, pen top.
Objectives: At the end of the lesson each child will be able to:
1. Make a wind vane
2. Tell the procedure of making wind vane.
3. Tell the importance of wind vane

Introduction:
Tr. “Good morning, Children.”
St. “ Good morning, sir.”
Tr. Well, Yesterday, we learned about a wind vane.Let us quickly recall again. ( Tr.
Pause for several seconds) What is wind vane?
St. It is an instrument used for finding the direction of the wind. It has an arrow that
points to the direction of the wind.
Tr. Very good, today we will learn how to make a wind vane and its importance.

Lesson Development:
Activity I
I have brought many things which you need, for making a wind vane. But first we need to
know the names of those materials and where we get them. ( Tr. Shows the objects and
asks the following questions)
Tr. What is this? (Tr. Shows cardboard)
St. this is a cardboard.
Tr. Where do we get cardboard?
St. It is available in the shop sir.
Tr. What do you think is this object? (Tr. Shows a pen top)
St. It is an old pen top.
What is ……. ( similarly Tr. Shows the other objects required for making a wind vane
one by one)
St. This is….
Tr. So , children, these are the materials you require for making a wind vane. Each of you
will be given the materials when you are asked to make a wind vane on your own. First,
we will look at the procedure for making a wind vane. ( Tr. Pauses for several seconds)
St. Listens

Activity II
( Tr. Pastes a chart containing the procedure for making a wind vane on the chalkboard)
Tr. Right, everyone look at me. Now listen very carefully because I am going to explain
the procedure and demonstrate how to make a wind vane. At the end of my presentation,
you will be left on your own to make a wind vane with the given materials, and you will
be asked a few questions on how to make a wind vane. You will be given 10 minutes to
complete your work and then you should show it to me.

Activity III
Tr. Now can you make a wind vane on your own?
St. yes sir.
( Tr. Sets students to work and monitors as they carry out the task……..)

Activity IV
Tr. Good boys and girls. You all have made a wind vane rightly. Now I will ask you
some questions on making a wind vane because this exercise will help you to remember
the correct procedure for making a wind vane.
Tr. What materials are required for making a wind vane?
St. cardboard, pen top………
How would you make a wind vane? Can you tell me step by step?
St. cut two………..
Tr. What is the purpose of direction compass?
St. To show the directions.
Tr. What is the importance to wind vane?
St. To know the direction of the wind which is really needed in places like air ports.

Closure:
Tr. Today you have learnt how to make a wind vane and you have made one for yourself.
Take it home very safely and use your wind vane to find out the wind direction at your
home and record it. Use the following table for your recording and bring it to the next
class. Tr. Writes the following table on the chalk board.
