8) 300 grams of a chemical solution with the concentration of 30% is mixed with 600 grams
of the same chemical solution with different concentration. The resulting solution has the
concentration of 40%. What is the concentration of the original 600-gram chemical solution?

If your answer is a fraction, its simplest form should be given, and make sure the answer is either a proper
fraction or a mixed fraction.
If your calculation result can be rationalized, you must rationalize the calculation result.
9) A ferry travels a 480-kilometre long river downstream. If the speed of the ferry travelling
on still water is 20 kilometres per hour, and the speed of water flow in the river is 4
kilometres per hour, how many hours does the ferry need to make a round trip?

10) Refer to the figure, quadrilateral ABCD is a rectangle. E, F and G are points on AB, BC and
AD respectively, such that AE  EB , BF : FC  1: 4 and AG : GD  3: 2 . If the area of
triangle BEF is 10 square centimetres, how many square centimetres is the area of

12) A, B, C, D and E pass a ball among themselves. At the beginning, the ball is in A’s hand.
If the ball is in C’s hand after the fourth pass, and the ball is passed to E after the eighth
pass, how many ways of passing the ball are there?

If your answer is a fraction, its simplest form should be given, and make sure the answer is either a proper
fraction or a mixed fraction.
If your calculation result can be rationalized, you must rationalize the calculation result.
13) The distance between city A and city B is 800 kilometres. Ray and Sam travel back and forth
between the two cities by cars. Ray departs from city A, while Sam departs from city B at
the same time. Before they meet for the first time, the ratio of the speed of Ray to that of
Sam is 3: 5 . After they meet, Ray increases his speed by 2 times. When Ray arrives at city
B, he will return to city A immediately. When Sam arrives at city A, what is the distance
between Ray and city B in kilometres?

14) There is a cylindrical bucket with the height of 25 centimetres and the base with diameter
