ACTIVITY 6

Gene Functions: Proteins and Enzymes

A. Give the meaning

1. What is Gene
• The biological and functional component of heredity was conveyed from parent to child.
Genes are bits of DNA, and the majority of genes include instructions for producing a
particular protein.
2. What is Gene Expression
• Gene expression is the process through which a gene's information is used to create a
functioning gene product, allowing it to produce end products like proteins or non-
coding RNA and eventually have an impact on phenotypes.
3. Give the Properties of Genetic Code and their meaning
• The genetic code, which is the arrangement of nucleotides in DNA and RNA and dictates
the order of amino acids in proteins. Although DNA's linear nucleotide sequences carry
the knowledge for protein sequences, proteins are not synthesized directly from DNA.
Instead, the DNA is used to create a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule, which then
controls the production of the protein.
4. Draw the genetic code table with label

5. What is codon
• A codon is a three-nucleotide DNA or RNA sequence that serves as a unit of genetic
information and codes for a specific amino acid or indicates the end of protein
production (stop signals).
6. Differentiate the transduction, transcription, translation (table it)
