Science Mnemonics

(I’ll add more as I remember them)

Heart valves: “Toilet Paper My Ass”


As blood flows through the heart: tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, aortic

Layers of the epidermis:

(Melanocytes are found in the basale layer and help protect from harmful UV light.)

Cell cycle: “I passed my anatomy test” or “I P on a MAT”


Interphase and mitosis: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase

“Go Sally go make children!”


Interphase: G1, S, G2; mitosis; cytokinesis

Male reproductive system: sperm pathway “SEVEn UP”


Sodium potassium pump:
K+ goes in (K+ has same number of letters/symbols as “in” 2=2)
Na+ goes out (3=3)

Maxilla vs mandible:
Max is a young boy who is starting to grow out a mustache. (maxilla is the upper jawbone where
the mustache grows)

Number of vertebrae:
Think of meal times: breakfast at 7 am (7 cervical), lunch at noon (12 thoracic), dinner at 5 pm
(5 lumbar) and a midnight snack at 2 am (sacrum and coccyx are 2)

White blood cells: types and abundance


Notice that neutrophils are the most abundant of all WBCs.

Cations vs anions: “Ca(+)ions” or


Sympathetic vs parasympathetic:

Oxidation and reduction reactions: “OIL RIG”


OIL: oxidation is LOSS of electrons
RIG: reduction is GAIN of electrons
