BANGSAMORO [BADJAO, MAGUINDANAO, MARANAO]

Their group present in different way, Online Discussion/ Reporting. They

talk about the Indigenous People of Bangsamoro (Badjao, Maguindanao, Maranao), their
topic also interesting like the first Bangsamoro Reporters that talks about the other part of
Indigenous People of their Tribe Group. While attending the online class I’m bit late to
join the discussion for some reason so I watch the recorded video to understand more
about the Bangsamoro Community and to learn how they live as a tribe. After I watch the
report, the Badjao Group of Indigenous People caught my Attention not just because I
heard their group but because of the culture they have is kind a give me more learning’s.
The Sama Dilaut or “Badjao” as far as I know they are group of IP’s that
live near the water or sea. They are known for their ability in diving because Badjao
means “fisherfolk”, badjao are great fishers then and now. Their tribe possess this kind of
living since then, they also use different kind of method of fishing as the reporters tells.
Abad’s group also tell what language was the Badjao use, the speak the dialect of Sinama
of Sama People it is the language of Philippines and Malaysia. One of interesting thing
about Badjao is they way they live, reporters tells that they use to traditionally live in a
boat, they live their and travel throughout the sea to fulfill the what they call fishing
requirements. For me as a student I’m happy to know this kind of learning, they are
different from other tribe, some of the tribe use to live in bahay kubo, cave or others only
badjao live in boat as part of their culture. Those men in their tribe are skilled fishers,
they do it for their living and part of the them as a tribe in the sea. They have also
Traditional dance called Panglay, it is the native dance of Badjao group it is more highly
in upper part of the body while dancing this kind of dance. Panglay perform mostly in
wedding and social gathering. Similar to other tribe Badjao Group also give Dowry when
there’s marriage, at early years of young man and women their parents wants them/ put
them in this kind of relationship. As part of their traditional way of Marriage as Badjao.
And the way how Badjao practice worship, asking favor to the spirits and other
ceremonies, they offer foods as way of their respect to their beliefs.
I will end this essay as summarization to all Indigenous Community we
discuss and learn in this entire journey. Ip’s have full and colorful culture to learn and
discover, studying them in 6 weeks have great impact to us. In first day of school many
ask what’s the connection of this subject to us, and now we have answers. Indigenous
People are part of our history, and learning them is an honor. Knowing them and
understanding them as a student will be a big factor to our future path. We must
RECOGNIZE their work, PROTECT their ancestral domain and PRESERVE them as the
time pass.
