UNITEN ICE STUDENT CHAPTER

THE INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS ASIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE MALAYSIA REPORT 14th JANUARY 2011

On the 14th January 2011, six students from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Student Chapter were invited by the ICE Country Representative for Malaysia, Ir. Dr. Ooi Teik Aun to attend the Institution of Civil Engineers Asia Pacific Conference Malaysia 2011. It was the first time for ICE Malaysia to organize the Asia Pacific conference in Malaysia. The theme of the conference was Infrastructure Development in The Tropical Environment.

The conference was held in Kristal Ballroom, Hilton Petaling Jaya Hotel and it was one-day conference. The conference was attended by Mr. Peter Hansford, the ICE President; Dato Ir. Prof. Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, IEM President; ICE country representatives from Asia Pacific Region and the participants. The objectives if the conference were to exchange the information on tackling common area of interest in infrastructure development in the tropical environment, to gather the pioneers to look at the development, advancement and achievements, to put them on record for the benefit of engineers and other interested in Infrastructure Development.

The conference covered the infrastructure development and green technology, mitigation of natural disaster and collaboration among researchers, government agencies, developers, consultants and contractors. Overall, the invited students managed to gain the valuable knowledge about the infrastructure development from the conference and will use it in the future.
