Do you know the meaning of sensational?

The most common definition is ‘very good, exciting or unusual.’

But there is another meaning, and I think it’s very important that you are aware of
it!

Sensational can also mean ‘intended to shock people and attract their interest.’

You could say that the subject line of this email is pretty sensational! And it
worked, didn’t it? You opened this email!

Maybe you opened it because you felt shocked and outraged…

Maybe you opened it because you felt curious as to why I would say this…

Perhaps you opened it because you agreed!

Recently on social media, I’ve seen a lot of sensational videos and articles on the
topic of grammar.

Statements like:

DO NOT study grammar!

STOP learning grammar – DO THIS INSTEAD!

GRAMMAR IS USELESS – learn English like a baby!

I categorically do not agree with this.

Yes, when you learn your first language as a baby, you learn through total
immersion and trial and error.

But 99% of English learners do not have the time, money or opportunity to simply
move to an English speaking country, sit in cafés and strike up conversation with
everyone they meet.

Instead, you need to learn in a methodical and practical way.

Grammar is the backbone of English.

You need to build a strong foundation before you build a house.

You need to build a strong core before you lift heavy weights.
You need to study for your driving theory exam before you can take your practical
driving test.

Without understanding English grammar, you will NEVER feel completely satisfied
with your English. I know that might be tough to hear, but it’s true.

Essentially, all of the various grammar rules, concepts and structures are the
building blocks of English, giving you the tools you need to communicate
effectively.

Think of it like putting together a puzzle! Go ahead and imagine a pile of puzzle
pieces sitting on your table. Something like this: Each piece represents a
different aspect of English, and without understanding how they work together,
it’s like trying to solve the puzzle in total darkness! You will have no idea which
piece goes where.

If you never learn English grammar properly, you will have the same exact feeling.
You will never feel entirely confident in your English ability.

But when you finally master English grammar, it’s like turning on the light so you
can finally put all the pieces together perfectly to reveal a beautiful picture.
When you fully understand English grammar, you will:

Be able to communicate in English clearly and confidently

Create properly structured sentences without having to think
Drastically improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities
Effortlessly use different verb tenses
Express your ideas precisely and accurately
Minimize misunderstandings
Enhance your career opportunities
Have you ever had a conversation where you couldn’t quite express yourself? I’m
sure you felt frustrated, upset with yourself and maybe even a little embarrassed.

Well, lucky for you, with a solid understanding of grammar, all those feelings melt
away. You’ll be able to clearly express yourself, use the correct verb tenses and
nail word order like a language pro.

As you dive into the world of grammar rules and concepts, you’ll start seeing the
bigger picture of the English language coming together. And that feeling of
accomplishment is truly priceless! You’ll wonder why you didn’t prioritize
grammar years ago!

So, what I’m trying to say is that learning English grammar is like unlocking a
whole new level of language power. It helps you express yourself clearly, connect
with others, and open up a world of possibilities.

It’s about time you embrace the adventure of mastering grammar and get ready
to step up your English skills like the language superstar learner that you are!
