X-ray is ionizing radiation that has the ability
to remove electrons from atoms when they
pass through it.
X-rays interaction with matter ,especially with
the biological matter, may lead to short and
long-term negative effects in human tissue.
Radiation Protection against X-ray

Time Distance Shielding

Lead Apron

Protective lead shielding is used to avoid

excessive radiation exposure, to the
patient or the radiologist or technician
due to its high atomic number (Z=82) and
considerable density.

Providing environmentally
weight free-lead shields, with the same or better

attenuation properties of lead shields is still a

challenge.
Polymer Matrix Nano-composites

Polymer nanocomposites are materials in which nanoscopic inorganic particles.

Typically 10-100nm in at least one dimension, are dispersed in an organic polymer matrix.
Polymer Matrix Nano-composites
Nanocomposites have significantly better characteristics due to their nanoscale diameters such as:

Lightweight and Flexible Easy to process

conformable materials
There are a number of studies compared between several metals, such as:

Among these studies, nano-bismuth has been shown a high efficiency in X-ray
attenuation.
Aim of Research

To fabricate nanocomposites shield of (PVP) and

(PMMA) as polymers with different concentrations of
Bismuth and Barium.
To investigate X-ray attenuation characteristics of this
nonlead-based polymer nano-composite.
For the best of our knowledge no studies mixed bismuth
with Barium nano particles.
