I am Melody Njiru, an International Relations student from Pioneer International University, Nairobi,
Kenya. I am excited to submit my application for the Mason and Mercatus Scholars Program at George
Mason University. As a student who is passionate about the economy and public policy , I believe that
this program will provide me with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to become a successful
economist and policy analyst.
First and foremost, I am eager to learn from the world-renowned faculty and researchers at George
Mason University. The university’s strong commitment to the principles of classical liberalism and free
market economics aligns closely with my own values. I have followed the work of several Mercatus
scholars, such as Tyler Cowen, Peter Boettke, and Chris Coyne, and I am impressed by their contributions
to the field of economics.
My research interests primarily lie in the areas of international trade and economic development. I am
particularly interested in studying the effects of trade liberalization on developing countries, and I
believe that this topic is particularly relevant given the current global economic climate. I am also
interested in exploring the intersection of economics and political science, particularly the ways in which
political institutions and policies affect economic outcomes.
Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to contribute to the intellectual community at
George Mason University and to learn from the outstanding scholars in the Mason and Mercatus
Scholars Program.
Sincerely,
Melody Njiru
