c. What was her next effort? How far did she succeed in getting what she wanted?

succeeded in making an entry into the home and also making Mrs. Sakkaro agree
to a visit to Murphy’s Park.

2. “she must be a lot of trouble to herself.”

a. Who said this and about whom?

Ans: George said this about Mrs Sakkaro.

b. What is the context of the statement?

Ans: Lillian, his wife, had just described the Sakkaro home. It was spotlessly clean.
It was obvious that the lady of the house was meticulous about maintaining high
standards of cleanliness and neatness.

c.How would she be a lot of trouble?

Ans: She would be troubling herself a lot because she would have to be on her
toes at all times to maintain the high standards she had set for herself and her
home.

V. Answer the following questions briefly.

1.What does Lillian say about her neighbour’s home?

Ans – Lillian found the Sakkaro home to be spotlessly clean. She had never
stepped into a home that was so well kept. The kitchen was spanking clean. It was
obvious that the lady of the house put in a lot of effort to ensure the almost
‘hospital sanitary’ condition. She was extremely careful even while pouring water in
a glass. Not a single drop was allowed to fall in the sink.

2. Describe the journey to Murphy’s Park

Ans_ The journey to the park was rather uninteresting. The conversation was
polite but impersonal. The Sakkaro boy was very polite and proved to be a good
influence for young Tommie. All the while, Mr Sakkaro’s radio kept running to
check the weather forecast.

VI. Answer the following question in 50-60 words.

1.What was the Sakkaro family obsessive about? How do we know this?
Ans: The Sakkaros were obsessive about the weather. This is clear from the fact
that Mrs Sakkaro would inspect the sky every now and then and not even step out
if it was cloudy. She insisted on checking the weather forecast before agreeing to

visit Murphy’s Park. Even after learning that the weather would hold, she said that
she would call in case the weather changed suddenly. On the day of the outing,
they carried an aneroid barometer to keep checking the weather and to be sure
that nothing would go wrong in that regard.
