Enthalpy (H)

To quantify heat flow into or out of a system in a constant

pressure process chemists use a property called enthalpy
.i.e. at constant pressure chemists use the relation, heat
change equals to enthalpy change.

Enthalpy is an extensive property; it's magnitude depends on

the amount of the substance present.

It is impossible to determine the enthalpy of a substance so

it is the enthalpy change actually measure.

Enthalpy Change
# represents the heat given off or absorbed during a reaction.

# Can be positive or negative.

# directly proportional to the amounts of substances in a system.

# Using a calorimeter operating at constant pressure, the enthalpy

change of a process can be measured directly.
