Abstract

Freelance work has grown immensely over the past decade and is expected to further increase in

the coming years. With such growth it is predicted that freelancers will account to as much as

80 percent. Previously considered as mere side gigs and extra jobs, freelance work has now

become a major employment option. One reason for its overwhelming development is the

notion that conventional 9-to-5 office work is evidently not compatible in this highly

interconnected globalized world. Another rationale behind this global upsurge is the

corresponding growth and sophistication of freelance platforms. Contracting with a freelancer

for remote work on a short-term basis opens up your hiring options in a new way. You aren’t

limited to your locale and can now access the best fitting freelancer wherever they may be. This

also helps you get around the habits of hiring the same types of people over and over again,

which undermines any company’s efforts to have a more diverse workforce Which is why

we’ve prepared this marketplace to provide opportunities to the freelancers.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, we see a lot of companies or startups moving from a traditional method where
they hire employees as full time to hiring employees based on contracts by which they
save a lot of money. Introducing a Marketplace where clients can find a true talent based
on his requirements and necessity, and where freelancers can work according to their
comfort remotely with good payment.

Freelancing is working for yourself, as opposed to working for someone else. Freelancers
are self-employed professionals who work on a project-by-project basis. If you are
wondering what roles freelancers play, the answer is almost everything. You can choose
any field as a freelancer from services like writing, editing, consultancy, marketing,
designing, ICT, virtual administration, social media management, etc. Often freelancers
are experts in their respective domains and work independently. However, they can also
work in person.

Freelancing is a great way to get started in the business world, and it doesn’t require any
special skills or training. All you need is the ability to work independently and a
willingness to put in the extra effort. A freelancer is more independent, but has no claim
to “unemployment compensation” when the job is over. An employee files a W-2 form,
while a freelancer files a form 1099 when reporting income for tax purposes. No one
withholds taxes for the freelancer. It is solely his/her responsibility to save a portion of
their income for taxes due. One becomes a freelancer by developing his/her talents and
building a reputation for having something to sell that someone else wants to buy.

1.1. FIGURES

The above chart shows the change in the freelancer jobs created every year from the year
1995 to the year 2025.. It has been observed that the graph increased each year having
32.2 percentage of freelancers to 40 percent in the year 2020. It is also estimated that by
2025, the freelancing jobs is expected to rise to 50 percent . It can also be observed that
the traditional jobs have reduced drastically over the last 25 years.

1.2. SCOPE
The marketplace we aim to create helps in finding the right talent among the pool of
freelancers. These goal-driven people take control of their lives by shunning the rigid
corporate structure in hope of finding a fair chance to showcase their talent, do quality
work on their own terms and get good remuneration. This obviously points towards a
more organized and prosperous future for freelancing as a whole and with the corporate
structure already penetrating India at an exponential rate, it can be predicted that in time
more and more people will move away from its rigid structure and limitations and begin
to embrace freelancing as part of their lives.

CHAPTER 2 PROBLEM DEFINITION

In the past, if you wanted access to the world’s top tech talent, you needed to move to
Silicon Valley and compete against the Googles and Facebooks of the world. Today,
thanks to the full-scale adoption of remote work and the rise of the freelance economy,
you can hire the world’s most talented tech talent from anywhere in the world. Silicon
Valley is no longer just a destination on a map it can be found anywhere.
In the recent times, lot of issues have been observed when it comes to freelancing sites.
Some of the issues includes fake talents, not finding the right talent according to the
requirements and so on.
There are nearly 60 million freelancers in the United States alone, and that number is
growing at a rapid pace. And while studies already showed a surge in demand for
freelancers these past few years, Covid-19 has put that demand into overdrive. That’s
why more and more highly skilled technical workers are now leaving their full-time
positions and embracing the flexibility and independence that comes with being a
freelancer.

CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW

With the passage of time, the scope of freelancing is increasing and so many people tend
to prefer freelancing over a permanent job due to the ease it offers. Freelancing is
helpful in earning additional money without going through the social biasness which is
common in traditional organizational environment. In this paper, we performed a
systematic literature review and conducted in depth interviews to analyze the
influencing factors for freelancing and the consequences people face when they do
freelancing in India. This paper presents the influencing factors and consequences of
freelancing separately for literature review and in-depth interviews. The results show
that 69% people are motivated to opt freelancing as a permanent job due to the benefits
they retrieve from working remotely as a freelancer while 31% people opt freelancing as
a part time job along with their permanent.

Since mid-nineties began a new dawn in employment avenues by the arrival of low-cost
Internet broadband technologies and enterprise capabilities of highly powerful yet
cheaper computers, this gave birth to a new virtual job model called as “Remote work”,
“Hiring on Demand” or “Crowd sourcing”. A number of companies have mushroomed
under the umbrella of Remote Work model. They pay handsome wages to the Job
Seekers both matured as well as novice at ease. The jobs are advertised and bidding is
done by the job seekers to procure the work (project), job seekers bid based on their
talent. Job provider has the prerogative to select the appropriate job seeker by
interviewing the bidders and getting the right worker for the right price. This paper
discusses about the companies who bring job seeker and job provider together through
the medium of internet and binding them in a virtual office. The online remote job sites
look after their work reporting, billing computation and compensation of the wages.

CHAPTER 7 METHODOLOGY

The only way of beginning with your career as a freelancer is to determine your area of
expertise. Once you have decided on your area of expertise, you are set to establish your
freelance business.

It takes time and effort to establish your business’ presence in the market. You need to let
people know about your service. So, an ideal way of establishing your online presence is
to go online and create your marketplace. It is a one-time investment. It helps you to stay
on top of the market, as it helps you build trust with your prospective clients.

With the help of your marketplace and social media marketing, you can convert your
website visitors into prospective leads and approach them to provide your services. To
ensure that your clients are receiving the information regarding your service, you need to
design your website accordingly. If they visit your website, they should understand what
service your freelance business provides and how it can be useful to them.

we need to make your prospective clients believe that you are competent for their project.
This can be done by listing your past clients and their projects on your marketplace.
Getting testimonials from your previous or existing clients can also help you fetch more
clients as this will build trust in the eyes of the new clients, and they would therefore trust
you to work with them.

There are millions of freelancers out there and the only way any client can see your
freelance business is through excellent promotion and marketing. You need to work
according to the expectations of your prospective clients. You need to publish blogs and
posts that allow people to understand your business. If you post content that is relatable
to the audience and relevant to your business, then clients will find interest in your service
and consider choosing your services.

You need to work according to the expectations of your prospective clients The most
important and tedious part of running a freelance business is cash management. It is
important to keep track of payments as sometimes you are working with more than one
client and ensuring that they are making payments on time can include a lot of hassle.

Networking is very important for any business and especially for a freelance one. It is
important to make connections with prospective clients in order to create their interest in
your business. You can connect with them for discussion, you can invite them to events,
and you can even keep webinars or online sessions for them. Giving importance to these
connections can prove to be really beneficial as they would get more inclined to availing
your services simply because you managed to build a rap creating a good image in the
minds of your clients and will also help you in fetching more prospective clients.

Once we get a kick-start to your freelancing career, need to build and establish the
brand’s image.
