What are Affixes?


Affixes are groups of letters that are added to the

beginning or the end of words to make new words.

Example: Unlucky
How do we refer to the

group of letters added

to the beginning?

We refer to them as

prefixes

The root word is the core

of the word which cannot

be reduced to any smaller

and meaningful elements


Why do we use affixes?

We use affixes to attach them to

the root word in order to give the

word a new meaning, hence

creating a new word form

Therefore, the function of

affixes is to change the
