Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English III

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:


a) State the difference between a prefix and a suffix.
b) Creating new words by adding affixes.
c) Apply the appropriate affixes to the word.

B. Motivation

The teacher will present a word using flashcards, and then the student will give the letter or
group of letters that may add to the word to make it opposite.

C. Presentation

The teacher will discuss the meaning of affixes; afterwards she will explain the difference
between suffixes and prefixes.

D. Discussion

Affixes – letter or group of letters that may add to a root word to modify its meaning. The
meaning of base word changes when affixes are added to it.

Two Main Types of Affixes

Prefix – letter group of letters added to the beginning of a word to form a new word.

Suffix- is a group of letters placed after a word to add or change its meaning.

Take note that the word to which a prefix or suffix is added is called a root word.

E. Application

The teacher will call some students to answer the activity given on the board.
A. Direction: Read each word then identify the base word and the affix use in each item.

F. Generalization

Prefix and suffix are affixes. Both are added to a word to form a new word but it differs
in the position. Prefixes are place at the beginning of a word, while suffixes are place at
the end of a word.

III. EVALUATION

The students will answer the items by providing affixes to each word.

Direction: Complete the sentences by providing words in a parenthesis with the appropriate
affixes.
