INTRODUCTION

In this report, as the construction project manager for a single story Surau Al-Ghazali in
UITM Kampus Samarahan 2, we shall explain the activity arrow and the precedence diagram,
and also how both differs from each other. This will show how important the roles of a
construction project manager in managing a project. In construction management, a proper
project planning is an important thing to keep the project in a good way and end with a better
result. Project planning is the initial planning document used to define an internal or an external
project. The proposal includes sections which are title, start and end dates, objectives and goals,
requirement, and a descriptor of the proposed solution.

There are numerous advantages to employing the precedence diagram management.


These are the following, it is to assure planning efficiency, it highlights links and
interdependence among tasks. Determines if any activities are missing. Aids in the identification
of important activities for improved planning. Assists in the creation of the overall project
schedule. For project team members, this is an excellent communication tool. The diagram can
be developed in one of four methods in the precedence diagram management. These are the
methods which are Finish-Start, in this dependency, an activity cannot begin until the prior one
has completed. This is the most prevalent type of reliance. Start-Start, there is a specified
relationship between the initiation of activities in this dependency. Finish-Finish, in this
dependency, the end dates of activities have a clear relationship. Start-Finish, there is a clear
relationship between the start of one activity and the end date of a successor activity in this
dependency. This is a rarely utilized dependent.

Project management has been around for a long time, and it entails planning and
coordination. There should be a channel for managing projects, whether it's a small firm, a
decentralized team, or a global brand. Every ambitious entrepreneur creates high hopes and
satisfying achievements while launching a project. It's a genuine struggle to watch the project
develop from beginning to end. Successful project management is becoming more of a
requirement than a status symbol. It is quickly establishing itself as a critical pillar of support and
strength to complete the task at hand. People conceive of project management software as a way
of managing the work required to complete a project within the timeframes defined to reach the
intended output.
2.0 Definition of Activity on Arrow and Precedence Diagram

2.1 Definition of Activity on Arrow


Activity on Arrow (AoA) means graphical of a planned programme by using an arrow
diagram which ease the project managers to distribute schedule of a project. This kind of
diagram are valuable technique that could make sure the project team finishes the activities
according to the specific deadlines. Usually, the project managers apply some elements in such
of diagram like circles that refer to each activity of a project while nodes represent to the earliest
and latest event start times. Other than that, the arrow shows the duration time or float of the
activity works but the length of arrow does not determine the duration of an activity. The
application of AoA diagram, they must be an expert project manager to manage and determine
for how long the project took to complete by starting with first task and ending with final work.

2.2 Definition of Precedence Diagram
Precedence diagram method known as a technique that applied for constructing a
schedule of activities that represented by few of elements such as nodes and link with more of
logical connections to convey the sequence in which the activities are to be showed. The
preparation of reference materials for precedence diagram must should be enough so the project
manager can construct the diagram efficiently. The reference materials included tender
document, specification, workmen information, plant and machineries information, method
statement and stakeholder team. That is why the project manager responsibility to do a planning
meeting with the team involved where the manager must explain scope of activities,
deliverables, dates of importance and list each works required to finish the project.

5.0 Discussion of Project Management Software
5.1 Definition of Project Management Software
The meaning of project management software is a combination of more tools that include
together in one place to deliver projects with successful. Besides that, software could help to
built teamwork that allows the manager to gain project target efficiently. There are many of
key features of a project management software such as project planning, time tracking, team
and client communication, task management, workflows, resource management, and custom
reports. Next, project software very important because it involved all the team members and
project planning is one of the critical progress to achieve team success. By doing it manually,
not recommended as it was not an efficient idea and make it more challenges and difficult.

5.2 Utilization Project Management Software Affects to The Project Performance


The application of project management software more increasing which put all required
tools for planning and organizing projects at a one place. Plus, the necessary to shuffle among
individual tools and managers could saving a lot of time where they can do for other work.
Thus, the possibility to boost the productivity of teams more systematic from superior
command over resource services. That is why the project management software has been wide
used and must have their own impacts to the project performance especially to the time, cost
and scope of a construction project. The utilization of project management software gives some
of positive benefits for time management where the managers handle to set duration of tasks
within a project work. Besides that, the process of a project also depend on the efficiency of
works to be completed on predetermined time which make every works become quick and save
consumption of time. It is an essential for managers to collect data report in purpose to help
them for set deadlines for works. Plus, it shows the duration hours of working has spent
according to the various activities from each team member that would help managers to
organize the tasks systematically.

Another that, when using the services of project management software is cost matter
that known as an important tool for assurance the structures management during handling in
construction project budgets. As an evidence, the project managers nowadays could plan on
the huge capabilities when related with construction management software tasks. It also shows
the easiest way in preparing the estimation of costs as a part of project control as well. As
reference, from the previous projects indicates cost performance data which includes
construction method and the resources such as equipment, labor, experience and knowledge.
Furthermore, other work that involved budget scope such as the bid prices for the work,
expense handling and core accounting can be established by using project management
software too. The managers can control the budget when using project software and avoid the
project cost from increasing.

Moreover, project performance based on the scope of a construction project also


affected by project management software where construction project management keep the
stakeholder team to stay up to date by sharing their progressing reports. We should know
construction management software is created to encourage the managers to handle for every
phase of projects by automating routines. By using project management software, the scope of
construction works involved many of documents that related to file storage and management
of files it is the responsibilities of applying management software. Basically, the common
software that being used like Microsoft project that keeps data of plan, schedule and manage
materials or resources. Other than that, the accuracy can be gained by applying project
management software that suit with the demand of users especially when related to whole scope
of construction that includes planning and scheduling parts.

In a conclusion, the utilization of project management software very important to bring


the well organized of project performance which could benefits the client and teams to stay
connected, sharing knowledge and have productive meetings.

CONCLUSION

In the conclusion, this project of a single story Surau Al-Ghazali in UITM Kampus
Samarahan 2 can be completed within the time given to finish the construction. As the
responsible construction manager manage the project, it shown that a construction manager
showed the credibility to plan the project perfectly to achieve the results of finishing the project
within the time given. It needs a lot of patients, knowledge, and experience to achieve such better
results. Projects planning is not an easy task to be handle as a construction manager who oversee
the project from the start to the end of the project.

In this report also shows us that the use of Microsoft Project software helps in this
construction project planning. This software helps in keeping up the progress of the construction
project which has been planned by the construction manager. It is to ensure that the project is
going in the way which has been planned and preventing any delays that possibly occurs. This
software has proven that it has helped the current generation of project planning in construction
industry to perfect completion of project.
