Philip and the Eunuch (Acts.

8:26-40)

“Instruction brings understanding and understanding leads to salvation”

PHILIP:

• One of the seven chosen to serve the early Chruch (Act. 6:5)

• Full of faith and Holy Spirit (Acts. 6:5)

• They were set apart to look wafter the gentile widows in the Jerusalem
church (Acts. 8:1)

• Became an evangelist in Samaria and preached the gospel

• Worked miracles and brought many to Christ (Acts. 8:5-8)

EUNUCH

• Eunuch: castrated servants who could have positions of power

• Help an important position as royal treasurer of the queen of Ethiopia, Candace


(Its. 8:26-40).

• Probably a convert to Judaism, a student of the law, could be a proselyte, not


fully becuase it required circumcision.

• Proselyte:a convert from one religion to another, Eg. paganism to judaism.

Heavy Persecution and the believers were scared from Jerusalem


(Acts 8:1)

Those Excluded from the Assembly


“No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut o shall
enter the assembly of the LORD. (Deut. 23:1)

Philip:
• Called to go to a desert place (Jerusalem to Gaza) and he went. V.26

- What does it tell us about Philip?

• The Spirit said go over and join the chariot (reached out, waited the invite)

• When he obeyed he could see the eunuch was reading Isaiah.

• Philip then asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

Ethiopian Eunuch: (castrated, could no join the assembly of God)

• Had come to Jerusalem to worship:


- Why would he go to Jerusalem to worship? What does that imply

- Converted to judaism? Proselyte (paganismo to judaism)?

- In any case He was in search for God, the only God of Israel.

• He was reading form the school of the prophet Isaiah v.30:


- What does it say about him? He wanted to learn, to get knowledge.

• He invites Philip over the chariot v.31


- What does it show about the eunuch? Initiative, interest…

Timeless Truth:

“Instruction brings understanding and understanding leads to salvation”

Application:

- Obedience: Philip obeyed when God called him to the desert.

- Answering the call to be Philips to instruct those without understanding.


(Evangelism, missions, ministry, outreach, teaching ministry)

- In order for Philip to Instruct the Eunuch he had to be instructed rst.

(Bible reading, bible study, bible schools).
