FAMILY FUN GAME IDEAS

1. Ring Bottle Toss

Collect empty bottles, rinse them and remove the labels.  You will need 10-15 bottles
total.  Once emptied and clean, fill the bottles halfway to three-quarters full with sand or
water to weight them down. Prepare plastic rings from cardboard. Cluster the bottles
together so that they sit with their bases touching.  Participants stand a designated
amount of space away and toss the rings.  Get the ring over the neck of a bottle and win
a prize.

2. Dart Balloons

You’ll need several packs of uninflated balloons, a few rolls of Scotch tape or masking tape
and a medium-sized plank of wood for the set up, plus sets of darts for the actual game.
Inflate the balloons, then secure them to the board with pieces of tape. Have participants
stand a few feet away, then let them throw the darts at the balloons. Popping balloons wins
prizes.
3. Knock ‘Em Down

Using large metal cans with the labels removed (and painted fun, bright colors!), stack the
cans in a pyramid and grab a few baseballs or softballs.  Have participants throw pitches at
the pyramid of cans, winning prizes for the number of cans knocked down.

4. Basketball Pong

Each player gets one attempt per turn to try to make a shot, and must shoot the ball from
behind their own buckets. Once a bucket is made, place aside to remove it from play. Once a
team has successfully made all five buckets, the opposing team is given a chance at
redemption.

5. Mini Golf

Cut out different sized arches in the box with either scissors or a stanley knife. Get painting!
Make it as bright and colourful as possible. Once the paint has dried, grab a texta and write
numbers above the arches. Give the smaller holes a higher number, and the larger, easier
one’s smaller numbers. Grab a sheet of paper and assign a child to be the scorer (great
maths practice for them)! Work out how many turns each player gets, and the distance they
have to hit the ball from. It’s time to play! Set the mini golf box up in the garden, grab the golf
putter and ball and enjoy some fun.
6. Tic-tac-toe

On the floor, lay down a tic-tac-tow grid using your paper tape.
Make a large "X" on the back of five of the paper plates and a large "O" on the back of the
other five (use your markers or tape for this).
Players take turn putting their plates in the grid in an attempt to get 3 of their plates (either X
or O) in a row.

7. What is in the box?

Place one of the items you found in the box and have your blindfolded participants, in 20-
second increments, take turns reaching in and feeling the objects. They cannot remove the
item from the box or scrape it along the sides. They can simply hold it and move it around in
their hand. At the end of each child’s turn, ask them if they know what it is. See what they
say. Encourage them to use their imagination by making creative suggestions. Could it be
Ogre eyes? Fairy dust? It doesn’t really matter. The only thing that does is creativity. The
game ends when someone guesses “correctly” – that is, when someone presents you with
the most creative answer.
8. Boggle

The goal of Boggle is to score points by finding words in the random letters in the grid. The
letters you use must be touching vertically, horizontally, or diagonally in a chain. You can't
skip or "jump" across letters. When you find a word, write it down on your paper.

9. Memory Matching Game

Participants need to find a match for a word, picture, or card. For example, students place 30
word cards; composed of 15 pairs, face down in random order. Each person turns over two
cards at a time, with the goal of turning over a matching pair, by using their memory.

10. Paper plane toss

Players are asked to aim their paper airplanes towards each hole, and toss their planes in
the attempt to score points by gliding it through the hole.
11. Boggle Math

Students look for and create number sentences using numbers that are touching in some
way, i.e. sides or corners. Some options for structuring this requirement include:

Use the numbers in any order, such as 1 + 22 + 2 = 7.

Use the numbers in the order of connection, such as 7 – (1 + 22) = 2

12. Frisbee toss

Players try to send the frisbee through the narrow opening to win.
13. Stack Attack

Players must stack up a pile of plastic cups and then place them back into a single stack in
under a minute.
