About The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India)
with its head office at Kolkata. It has 13 branches all over India.
It has about 4500 members and over 300 industries as
Industrial Corporate Members.
IIW-India publishes Indian Welding Journal which has technical
research papers of high standards. IIW-India is member of the
International Institute of Welding and has acquired the status
of Authorised Nominated Body (ANB) and Authorized
Nominated Body for Company Certification (ANBCC) to certify
companies as per ISO 3834. ANB is authorized to award
internationally accredited professional certificates such as
IWE & IWT.
IIW-India also conducts its own welder certification
programme, under National Welding Training and Certification
Scheme (NWTCS). Directorate General of Training (DGT),
under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship
(Government of India), has empanelled IIW-India as an
'Assessing Body' for MES courses under the Skill
Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme for welding courses
under Fabrication Sectors in all States and Union Territories in
India. Similarly, IIW-India is also empaneled by NSDC as the
'Assessing Body' for certification of welders under PMKVY and
other schemes under various Sector Skill Councils.
Corrosion, wear and tribological losses accounts for at least 5 % of the annual GDP loss in most countries. In
this context, application of suitable cladding that forms the metallurgical bond with the substrate has huge
potential to enhance the functionalities including wear and abrasion resistance, high-temperature corrosion
and oxidation resistance, reduce frictional losses, improve biocompatibility, etc. In the recent times, there
has been significant development in both the processing aspects of different cladding technologies
including laser cladding, plasma transferred arc cladding, arc-based hard-facing as well as development of
novel and superior feedstocks for enhanced performance of the critical components. Different industries
including mining and metals, oil and gas, nuclear and biomedical sectors can benefit from these
developments.
