Basic problems
1. A, B, C, D, and E are points on a circle. If AEC = 670 and ECD = 510 , what is the value of
y − x?
3. PA and RS are tangents to circle O. If PA = 22, find the perimeter of triangle PRS.

Challenge problems
2. A rectangle ABCD has dimensions AB = a and BC = b. Four semi-circles, facing outward, are
drawn using each edge of the rectangle as diameter. A full circle is drawn using the diagonal of the
rectangle as diameter. Find the total area of the “4 lunes”, the shaded area that is inside one of the first
4 semicircles circles but outside the full circle.
3. Three circles are inscribed in a semicircle as shown. Each circle is tangent to the semicircle and to
the other circles. Calculate the fraction of the area of the semicircle that is shaded.

4. Three circles of radius 6 are drawn with centres C1, C2 and C3 as shown. If each of the 3 circles has
its centre on the other 2 circle, calculate the area covered by the 3 circles.
5. In circle P, PA = 8 inches and AB = 12 inches. The measures of angles A and B are 60 each.
Compute the number of inches in the length of chord BC.

6. The figure below is a regular nonagon (nine sides). Prove that the sum of the length of side AB
7. Two concentric circles are shown. The radius of the inner circle is 3, and the distance between the
circles is 3. A line segment of length 4 has its endpoints on both circles. Compute the distance from
point A to point B.
