Exercise 1 [1.5pt]: High turnover items

A maintenance department used 30 types of items during the 2020. Table 1 shows the yearly
demand and the unit cost of each item (Excel sheet “ABC Analysis”).

Perform an ABC analysis by considering the following ranges:

Code Acc. Consumption Value

A 70%
B 20%
C 10%

Assign a code (i.e. A, B or C) to each item and compute the number and percentage of items
within each category.

Exercise 2 [3.5pt]: Low turnover items

In the Excel sheet “Value-Criticality Method”, you can find a list of MRO materials with the
following information:

Stocked
Item Nº Unit cost ($) Effect Lead Time
Units

You need to assign the code resulted from the application of the value-criticality method to
each of the materials in the list; i.e. 3X, 3Y, 3Z, 2X, 2Y, 2Z, 1X, 1Y, 1Z.

Use the matrix in Figure 1: matrix for the assignment of the criticalityFigure 1 to define the
criticality value of each item. In the Excel, the effect and lead time values have already been
assigned.
