METHODOLOGY

This study was designed to explain the effectiveness of icebreaker questions in in-class activities.
The data that was attained in this chapter comprises the (a) time and place of the study, (b) research
design, (c) population sampling, (d) sampling techniques, (e) instrumentation, and (fp) data-gathering
procedure.

Time and Place of the Study

Since the focus of the study is on grade 8 students at Dasmariñas Integrated High School, the
research is conducted at the same school. The survey will be conducted on the first week of January 2023,
at Dasmariñas Integrated High School. The researchers expect to gather data in line with the schedule of
the cooperating teacher of one of the researchers. It is estimated that the data gathering will last 3–5
school days. Data collection is most likely to occur during the post-class discussion or during the students'
break.

Research Design

The researchers used and engaged the descriptive survey method of design. Since the study was
in a quantitative form and was after the evaluation of the result, it would serve as the source of the study
to come up with concrete evidence.

Descriptive research was used to describe the characteristics of a population or occurrence being
studied. It does not answer questions about how/when/why the characteristics occurred. Rather it
addresses the "what" question.

The descriptive method, known as ―the normative survey was a fact-finding study with adequate
and accurate interpretation. It collected demographic data about people’s, practices, intentions,
attitudes, opinions, judgment interests, perceptions, and the like, and then such data were analyzed,
organized, and interpreted.

The researchers used a descriptive method because they drew out the perception of the
participants to the Effectiveness of the Icebreaker Question. Also, how they were affected by it, especially
in In-Class Activities.

Population Sampling

Population sampling is the practice of selecting a small group of participants to represent the
overall population. Typically, sampling is used because it is not feasible to test every member of the
population individually. Additionally, it is done to expedite the research process and save time, money,
and effort.

Population Category Target Population Sample Size Research Instrument Sampling Technique

Grade 8 27 4 Questionnaire Availability Sampling

The table shows how researchers will select the participants in Grade 8 students of Dasmarinas
Integrated High School. So, the target population is 27 participants from Grade 8. There are 7 sections in
Grade 8 each section, the researchers select 4 participants. These 27 participants will answer a
questionnaire that serves as a representation of what type of Icebreaker question the population of Grade
8 is more likely to participate in.

Sampling Techniques

Since grade 8 of Dasmariñas Integrated High School has seven (7) sections, the number of
participants was assigned. An equal number of participants were taken into consideration, thus arriving
at the number of four (4) each per Section (consisting of 2 male and 2 female). The researchers used non-
probability sampling, specifically availability sampling in selecting random participants. Since the study
deals with the effectiveness of icebreaker questions in in-class activities the main focus of the study was
Grade 8.
