CD4: Tourism and Hospitality Organization

If you are part of the Department of Tourism, what type of assistance will you
request from the UNWTO? Why? Minimum of 50 words.

To begin with, The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the world's
foremost organization in the field of travel and tourism. Its mission is to promote and
develop tourism, as well as to contribute to economic development, international
understanding, peace, and prosperity, as well as a universal respect for human rights
and fundamental freedoms for all people, regardless of race, gender, language, or
religion. On the other hand, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is an executive
department of the Philippine government. It is mandated to encourage, promote, and
develop tourism as a major socio-economic activity to generate foreign currency and
local employment and spread tourism's advantages to a wider population segment.
However, due to the emergence of the COVID-19 virus, most tourism industries have
been affected over the past three years. With that, if I were a part of the Department of
Tourism, I will request financial assistance from the UNWTO to help the affected tourism
industries to recover from their loss.

I believe that financial assistance is the most essential and helpful for the affected
tourism industries during times of uncertainty. Most companies, businesses, and
organizations operating for tourism have difficulty generating enough profit due to the
lockdown and travel ban. Therefore, with the help of financial assistance, they can pay
their workers again, and they will soon arise from all the predicaments. Moreover, the
financial assistance can also help develop new infrastructures and a great opportunity
for the tourism sectors to take efficient actions to improve the tourist attractions in our
country to attract more tourists and investors.

With all being said, the tourism and hospitality industry grows each year, and we can't
predict when is the time of uncertainty will happen again. This industry contributes to the
economic and employment growth in our country. With that, we can all play a significant
role in preserving, appreciating, and helping this industry grow to be more successful in
the future.
