“Darkness is only in the Eyes”

(Short movie)

Reflection #1

There is a saying that, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and
instill a love of learning”; to be a well-equipped teacher is one thing but to inspire
and motivate others, especially your students is another thing. The movie talks about
a teacher with eyesight disability, who first ignored and looked-down by his students.
He strived and exerted so much effort to do what his chosen profession must do. One
day, his students saw and felt his love and concern for them; and from that time, his
students realized and got motivated to give back the love and respect he deserves.
Being a student, who is aiming to be an educator, this movie gives me realizations
and touched my heart (I even cried); that first, even though you lack with something
in you, it doesn’t count, for us to excel on what we are doing. Whenever there are
discouragements that pulls us to stop, just shake it off. It is good to challenge
ourselves and think positively all the time. There are so many ways that can help us
to burst out the best within us. Failure doesn’t mean we are already defeated and
will not be able to stand up again, but let us take it as a motivation to keep on going
forward. Also, in everything we do, even in our chosen profession, we must always
put our heart in it. It is like you are not considering it as a job that you are being paid
for, but rather, it is a profession where you can help and inspire others to embrace
the real value of learning and education.

Fairness

Reflection #2

In this lesson, it taught me the broad meaning and concept of the word “Fairness”,
wherein, different people can give different definitions for this word. For me, fairness
is more than just about giving everybody around us the same treatment, but it is
about giving everybody an equal chance at life to fulfill their goals and potentials.
Fairness is not so easy deed to achieve because of differences. These differences are
probably because of how these people perceive life, how they interpret situations,
and the level of understanding they have for others. For an illustration, you have a
one round of pizza, and you give everyone an equal size slice of that pizza; but in
some cases, this does not happen according to your purpose; some may think that
their slice of pizza is not big enough or not equally distributed. So, there will always
one person or people that might think you are treating them not fairly. It is very
important to a person to act with fairness toward his/her own self and toward other
individual in the community to avoid jeopardy and problems to occur. Having the
assurance that everyone can be treated the same and rules are set, everyone can
work, have fun, collaborate, and have fun together. I can say that, even from the
beginning, fairness is very difficult deed to achieve, unfairness and inequality is
rampant in every corner of our society. So, with all our might let’s practice and
possess fairness to build a good and strong foundation of relationship to others, and
to be a good citizen of the community where we belong.

Self-control

Reflection #3

In the bible, Proverbs 16:32 says that, “He that is slow to anger is better than the
mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”; this verse encourages
us to have rule over our wants, impulses, emotion, and the whole part of who we
are; in short, we must practice self-control.
In this lesson, it reminded and provides me the definition, the main parts, and
importants components to improve self-control in life. The given definition of self-
control is, it is the ability to manage one’s impulse, emotions, and behaviors to
achieve long-term goals. For me, it is an attitude or characteristic that everyone
should possess and and impotant skill to develop, for us to be able to live
appropriately in the society and not to harm ourselves and the people around us. In
our everyday lives, there are a lot of temptations and lust that can trigger to test our
level of self-control. People who lacks self-control may take that triggers without
thinking what are the possible outcome or results for their actions; the result may
even give danger for themselves and to others. They might also respond with anger,
violence or by turning to unhealthy coping mechanism whenever their desires are
not being met. For us to avoid these circumstances to happen, we must think of the
ways to improve our self-control, like be mindful of our actions, focusing our mind to
calm down and breathe deeply, and learn to pray to help us, to always work out our
self-control.
