"What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question most students have likely heard and thought about
for a long time. But have you really thought about what this question means for you, personally? How would
this question affect your life now; the decisions you make, the future you’ll create?

A. CONNECT (Duration: 2 mins)

Hello dear PHINMAEd students! How are you today? I hope all of you are fine and
doing great!

If someone walked up to you and asked, “Who is your role model?” What would you
say? Does anyone even come to mind? Role models are people who influence others by
serving as examples. They are often admired by the people who emulate them. Through
their perceived personal qualities, behaviors, or achievements, they can inspire others to
strive and develop without providing any direct instruction. For today’s session, we will look
at the life and success stories of some of our fellow students/alumni. These role models act
as guides to help you understand who you would like to become in the future. By
understanding what they did in the past, with similar circumstances, we can hopefully gain
a better understanding of what we need to do to gain a similar — or better — future.

B. COACHING (DO AND THINK)
— DO —
Duration: 13 mins.
Please read the inspirational story below and highlight the important key points to
help you remember. We want to share with you this story of struggles, successes and failures
that contain many lessons that can inspire and motivate you in daily life.

VENUS JOY FLORES

Student Leader

I've been racking my brain and heart for what I should write today so that students like me have
something worthwhile to read. I've considered what I wish I'd known before starting college and what valuable
lessons I've gained along the tough journey of completing college, which everyone agrees is difficult. I never
considered working while earning my Education degree in high school because I didn't have to, and neither did
my parents, but by my junior year of college, I realized that I wanted to work part-time or, more accurately, that
I needed to try something new, something challenging, or something out of my comfort zone. So then, I did.

After that, my life changed. I cried nearly every time I had to go to work and should be at my best to
function. To me, each time I set foot at work when class was done meant an adieu to all that was familiar, all
that was convenient – most importantly, all that I thought that could be safe and I couldn’t wait for college and
council responsibilities to be over.
I don’t blame my parents since it was a decision I made, and I want to emphasize that blaming your
parents for pushing you in the direction they wanted has an expiration date; once you’re old enough to take the
wheel, responsibility is yours. Furthermore, I cannot blame my parents for wishing that I would never go
through what they did, which was a difficult life.

But as I’ve always been told growing up, sacrifices must be made. You can’t have both relaxation and
comfort but in some circumstances you may, yet it truly is quite hard to get out of your comfort zone as there’s
always a trade-off. I traded my comfort zone to be in places unfamiliar, where I would be exposed to realities I

never imagined being at and sometimes things get hard and I wished I just stayed, but now, I realize why
keeping myself moving felt like such a big sacrifice. It gave me the mindset of making my move to be worth it.

Being a working student and a leader all at once will make you discover for yourself that you need to
have a strong will, and more discipline than what you had suspected; and you may also find out that you have
friends whose values are truly above the price of gems. However, with all these pursuit, it never meant I never
failed because at some point of my life I did but I am not one to tell you that it's such an experience you have to
be in or you have to go through and think like its fun but you will never truly know yourself, or the strength of
your will, until both have been tested by adversities.
