SSP Module #8 Student Activity Sheet
It is amazing how much we learned last time. And for today’s review please take part in this
activity. Do you still remember our discussion on being a Role Model?
Being a role model cannot be learned just by one sitting; thus, we shall always remember how to be one. To do
so, please try to remember the lesson we had in the first semester and answer the anticipation guide below.
Instructions: Read the statements and put a check on those that a Role Model should possess.
A role model discourages people from being good citizens.
/ A role model inspires and motivates people to strive hard to reach a certain goal.
B.COACH
DO (40 minutes)
Activity 1: Read
Pre-printed Notes:
Do you know there are certain qualities that distinguish a good role model in the classroom? Good classroom
role models typically meet three criteria:
● They appeal to students’ self-identities in some way, perhaps sharing students’ background, interests, or
experiences.
● They promote, in their messages and stories, values related to achievement, effort, and teamwork. ●
Their engagement with students is frequent and meaningful enough to influence student beliefs and
behaviors.
With the criteria above, it is important that you resist equating “famous” with “role model.” A famous person
does not automatically qualify him or her to be a good role model. Therefore, when you look for a role model it
is vital that you look at a person, who by their actions and achievements, show that hard work leads to success.
1. Choose someone who has a lot of confidence in him/herself and in his/her abilities. A good role model
would be someone who knows who he is. You don't want someone who is down and who will bring you
down. You want someone who won't pretend to be someone they are not, and won't fake it just to
please other people.
2. Consider someone who thinks it is alright to be unique even if that means accepting some ridicule.
He/She should make you feel good about being yourself. He/she shouldn't make you compare yourself
to him/her.
3. Think about someone who interacts well with others, someone who is kind and can communicate well
with people.
4. Look for someone who is living life the way you would like to. If you want to be a famous author, your role
model could be someone who has been successful at writing. If you have always wanted to be a nurse,
your role model could be someone at your local hospital who is dedicated to his job.
5. Find someone who doesn't always take credit for what he/she does.
6. Choose a role model who may have done something you find admirable.

7. True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have and those who have
affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people. We often don't recognize our true role
models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress.
8. Keep in mind that having a role model does not mean you become exactly like that person, remember to
retain your individuality. Emulate them, but put your own individuality into the things they do.
9. A role model should be someone who you want to be like, and someone you admire.
10. Be your own role model. This means to do the things that you would admire someone else for
doing. Accepts others’ ideas.
1. Think of a person that you can consider your Role Model. He/She can be anyone close to you, a well-
known person you look up to, anyone you believe in or he/she can be yourself (Remember, you can be
a role model, too!).
2. In the box below, write down the name of this person and who he/she is. Explain why he/she is your
role model. Write down his/her own struggles, achievements and qualities that you know.
3. Find a partner and tell him/her about the role model that you have written and let him/her know why
you chose this person. Have about 5 minutes to share your output.
4. Also, your teacher might be calling 3-5 persons from your class who will share their output to everyone
so be prepared.
Activity 3:
It is never easy to be a student, especially in college where you experience many trials including financial
difficulty, academic challenges, low self-esteem, family issues, natural calamities, peer pressure, etc. Not all
students are blessed with a good and fulfilling life; today it is normal for us to see students who work tirelessly
day and night to obtain a degree in college. That is why it is really important to have someone to look up to in
order for us to keep our eyes on the goal.
Now, that we have reviewed what a role model is, and considering that you have heard messages from
identified role models, please go back to your partner and do the accomplish the activity below:
Create a life quote together. The life quote must reflect your perspectives toward the character of a role model.
Example: “Excellence is not being the best; it is doing your best.” Write your answer in the space below.
