SUMMARY OF
ARTICLES
1. PRACTICING CONNECTIONS: A FRAMEWORK
TO GUIDE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN FOR
DEVELOPING UNDERSTANDING IN COMPLEX
DOMAINS
This research is founded on the principle that in
order to master a new concept, one must connect
what he knows and understand to what is being
taught. Essentially, the authors sought to
understand the impact of intentional pedagogy on
a student's development of transferable
knowledge. Their hypothesis states that this might
be achieved through real life contexts and
examples and opportunities to practice repeatedly.

APPLICATION IN MY CAREER

• Provide opportunities for students to see

what their learning outside of a strictly
academic context
• Allow students to experience productive
struggle and support each other
• Provide ample and intentionally design
opportunities for students to implement
what they’ve learned through practice

2. AN INVESTIGATION OF BLENDED LEARNING
TO SUPPORT READING INSTRUCTION
IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
The primary goal of this study was to compare
students’ reading skills performance in blending
instruction versus traditional teacher-lead
instruction. The sample group was composed of
struggling readers in grades K-5. Ultimately,
researchers found that blended learning yielded high
impact results, but only when implemented correctly
and with fidelity.

8
APPLICATION IN MY CAREER
• Small group instruction
• Able to target students specific needs to
fill conceptual misunderstandings
• Using resources that are valid and
reliable yield high results

3. FIVE PRINCIPLES TO NURTURE MOTIVATION
WITHIN EARLY READING INTERVENTIONS
This author's formulated this research to determine
the effect of student interest on their learning
outcomes. Essentially, the authors wanted to prove
that teachers would see significant improvement in
a students' phonemic awareness skills, knowledge
of letters and sounds, and word identification if
they were able to relate or take interest in how the
content is presented to them.

10
APPLICATION IN MY CAREER
• Planning with student interests in mind
yields high results
• Plan opportunities for activities and
interventions that are at the student’s
level + 1
• Rather than using the provided
curriculum assessments, make an effort
to create an assessment based on
student interest
