BASIC CONCEPTS, THEORIES, PRINCIPLES IN ASSESSING LEARNING USING


ALTERNATIVE METHODS AND LEARNING TARGETS FOR PERFORMANCE AND
PRODUCT ORIENTED ASSESSMENT

Assessment is a one way ticket in order for us teachers to know the level of
knowledge acquired by students. That is why there are different types of assessment
that caters different kinds of children according to their skills and knowledge. One thing
that we are sure of is it should lead to the students learning. On that assessment used,
the partnership between the teacher-student is highly recommended. A student must
used the educational objectives in the different domains that will served as their guide in
doing so. Most importantly, teachers as well as students must be aware if the learning
targets were achieve or not.
Through this, we can analyze and interpret the evidences of students learning
that will help us decide which are relevant to our learners. Furthermore, we can also
assure that all students gain learnings that they should learn. We can assess it by
means of achieving the learning targets. By having this, it has a big impact not just to us
teachers but also the students. The significance of assessment as an integral part of
instruction is it determines whether or not the goals of education are being met.
Assessment affects decisions about grades, placement, advancement, instructional
needs, curriculum. It also provides feedback in the learning process and most
importantly, it helps in monitoring students' learning process. As a teacher, it also helps
me a lot because in that way, I can easily determine students who excel on that subject
and students who needs assistance on that certain subject. Either qualitative ot
quantitative gathering of data, it also helps in evaluating ourselves if the teacher needed
an improvement or he/she did well to achieve the learning targets.
To sum up everything, assessment is really an important tool in an academe in
order to evaluate the teachers performance as well as the students learnings. It is a
long way process but it is a worthwhile task that a teacher should strive more. It can
benefit both the teacher and the students that is necessary in each of their growth.
