Number Properties
The following are basic laws for dealing with numbers which you should already be familiar with.

❖ Multiply by 1 = no change
❖ Multiply by zero =0
❖ When adding or multiplying numbers the order does not matter

A+B =B−A and AB = B A

a) 314 + 0 + 12 = d) 1777 + 0 =

b) 22 x 213.43 x 0 = e) 1x0x1x0

c) 12 x 22 x 1 =

BODMAS
To avoid confusion in mathematics we have developed a general rule when dealing with operations of
numbers.

a) (15 - 7) x 2 + 3 = d) 25 - 5 x 1 + 6 =

b) 12 ÷ 3 - 1 = e) (1 + 6) x 7 =

c) (32 x [2 + 2] + 2) +11 =

Divisibility Tests
To determine if certain numbers are divisible to leave no remainder we can do certain tests.
