INTRODUCTION

Ages ago, by reason of his superior intelli-

gence, man became lord over all the beasts of
the fields. Today, out of the welter of human
life, a race of super-humans is arising. They, in
turn, will direct and determine human destiny.
Their power will not come through strength,
cleverness or an improved knowledge of germs
and glands, alone, but through the exercise of
those newly awakening faculties which lead to
cosmic or four dimensional consciousness.

There was a time wiien man had the con-

sciousness of only two dimensions. He thought
of the earth as a plane of infinite extent, and he
lived in a world of moving surfaces — such as
the animals continue to live in. But with the
development of reason, man was able to con-
ceive of the world as a globe and he could think
in terms of solids, even though his eye saw only
surfaces. In other words, the power to reason,
to form concepts, imparted to space and other
dimensions.
The next faculty to be unfolded, superior to
reason as reason is superior to perception, is
vii
intuition.Imparting the power to perceive any-
thing as four-dimensional. The only way in
which we can now comprehend this fourth
dimension, is as time, and it is the best idea that
we can form. Therefore, the nature of the
superman is that he will be unconditioned by
time.

The measure of a man's true greatness is his

timeliness, the extent to which he triumphs over
time. Every great religious teacher of the past,
Christ, Buddha, Krishna, Orpheus, higher
is
dimensional in relation to ordinary humanity.
How are we to obtain this super-human intelli-
gence? By right living, right thinking and a
willingness to do and keep on going onward,
until we reach the goal of man's ambition "Per-
fect Happiness."

The whole world craves happiness. What

With happiness you
else is there to ask for?
have everything. Money alone does not make
happiness. No one has ever yet found happi-
ness by chasing it over the earth. Happiness is
not in our clothes or our material possessions;
it is not in excitement or a continual round of
pleasure. It is a child of right thinking, right
acting, and helpful service.

No man is the victim of cruel fate which de-

cides his destiny. Weknow what thoughts,
what moods, what motives are builders, and
what are destroyers. It is our privilege to choose
which shall work our destiny. If we are not
honest with ourselves, if we haven't enough
viii
ambition, energy and will-power to correct our
faults, to riseabove the things that down the
weakling and trip up the unworthy, we must
then take the consequences. We
are the masters
of our own destinies.

We give the leading points in evidence, in this

work, to guide and assist the student as suggest-
ing how he may enlarge thereon, and through
their agency make more extended research and
application of the principles; for this work is
intended to make available the practical or per-
sonal and business benefits to be derived there-
from.
There are two general causes for failure and
inharmony. First, parents often educate their
children in a calling for which they have no
adaptability, and many times leave them a for-
tune with which to carry on that calling, and, as
they have no adaptation to it, they soon lose
their money, and after frequent efforts to rise
again, they get discouraged and become failures.

The second cause of inharmony is misunder-

standing of each others motives. Parents should
know what care their children should have
whilst young, what their strong and weak points
are, both physically, mentally and spiritually,
thereby saving thousands of lives from failure
in later years.

In this age of progress in human thought and

activity, he who would keep up with the times
must be awake and ready to grasp his opportu-
nities. The most pitiful and yet the most gro-
ix
tesque sights that meet the eye today are those
who do not stop to think that, by their own
actions, conduct, manner of living and believing
they are closing their spiritual eyesight to real
possibilities of life.

He who really and truly desires knowledge

and is sincere and faithful in his efforts to ob-
tain it, will accumulate much. He who thirst-
eth after knowledge shall, as he "who thirsteth
after righteousness," be filled.

As you penetrate into the ancient mysteries of

numbers, they will open up their great meaning
before you. The more you begin to understand
the language of the past the more grows your
conception of the living world not seen by out-
ward sight.

The language of numbers teaches man that

there is something greater than the impotent
being known to Modern Science as a compound
of bones, muscle and nerves.
My great desire in presenting this work to
the public is that it will give the earnest student
who desires, above all else, a practical system
of numbers, that specific knowledge which
enables one to carry out in spite of all obstacles,
that which they set out to do.
In order that man may reach his highest
estate, he must traverse the definite cycles of
life that mark the various stages of earthly
evolution.

The contents of this book is intended for intel-

X
ligent thinking people, and are the fruits of an
earnest desire to impart to other travelers on
life's way the physical, mental and spiritual
significance of numbers.

To every thoughtful person who aspires to go

onward and upward to higher spiritual develop-
ment I commend this work.

A thought for the Beginning

THE RIVER OF LIFE

Go where you will the river

of life flows on ever plentiful,
it flows between prison walls
where the sun never gleams on
it, it flows past palace steps
where all is gladness.

It is not our concern, how

deep the river nor to its

strength, but of great impor-

tance the size of the cup we
plunge into the river of life.

We must not grumble at

destiny or the amount of hap-
piness we bring up in our cup
from the river of life.

THE DIVISION OF NUMBERS

Numbers are Divided into two great principles

or divisions, the first division being the meaning
of the indivdual numbers, and the second their
practical application to life.

Numbers are symbols of vibratory force which

is operative throughout all nature, and all
planes they have their application in the most
;

sacred matters and record the workings of

nature in her periodical cycles.
Numbers have a relative value, according to
the position they occupy in relation to each
other. They also have a physical, mental and
spiritual value. In their spiritual significance
their meaning is deeper and more extensive.

Nothing in the universe of sorrows and joys

is more intensely interesting than the study of
the science of numbers.
One
of the greatest mysteries of antiquity is
the origin of numbers and the ancient signifi-
cance of the symbols which were used to repre-
sent them.

vious to 3000 B. C.
The ancient Egyptians are said to have ad-
mitted that their knowledge of numbers were
gained from people older than themselves.
fact we are sure, the system of num-
Of one
bers originated in the very cradle of the race,
for we find the same symbols among widely
separated peoples, whose relation to each other
is shrouded in mystery.

According to legend, Jehovah gave the num-

bers and letters to Moses; hence all the left
curves in Hebrew letter form turn upward as
symbols of fingers pointing heavenward.
In this book we will deal with the Life Plane
Number, The Name Number and the Harmony
Number.

no letters, Numbers or signs.
THE LIFE PLANE NUMBER

The life plane number is found by adding the

date, month and year of birth and reducing the
sum total to one single digit.

Example: John Holmes born January 2nd

1892.Add January 1st month, 2nd day and 1892
which makes 23. Add the 2 and the 3 which
makes 5. 5 would be the life plane number of
John Holmes born January 2nd, 1892.

The life plane number shows us what part in

the grand plan of life the soul has come to this
earth plane to take.

The lifeplane number always remains the

same, as the soul chooses the date, time, place
and parents in coming to this earth plane.
THE NAME NUMBER

The name number is found by adding all the

numbers which represent all the letters in the
name and reducing to one single digit.
Example :The numbers which represent the
letters in thename John Holmes are 1685 for
John and 863451 for Holmes, making 47. Add
the 4 and the 7 making 11. Add the 1 and the
1 making 2. 2 would be the name number of
John Holmes.
The name number shows us how the name is
grand plan on this earth
assisting the soul in the
plane.

The name number can be changed at will, as

you choose to change the name. Care should
be exercised in selecting a name which will
assist the life plane number.

The vowels in the name will also assist in

determining the rate of vibration the name is
giving the life plane number.

The vowels are A— E — I — —U. An A in

the name represents unity, will power, action
and independence.
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 9

An E in the name designates clearness of

physical sight, research, joy, truth through
theory united with contact.
An I in the name represents a firm foundation,
positive, unchangeable, the spirit of the I AM
principle.

An in the name shows a creative spirit,

modest, independent, strong, successful, vibra-
tion.

A U in the name shows wisdom, power, order.

The vibration is one of self sacrifice through
service.

The vowels in the name also show the charac-

ter of the name, and many times the character
of the person bearing the name. They show the
spiritual structure of the name as well as the
hidden desires which wish to be expressed.
THE HARMONY NUMBER

The harmony number is found by adding the

numbers which represent the first letter in the
first, middle and last name. If there is no mid-
dle name, then just the numbers which repre-
sent the first letter in the first and last name.
Example John Holmes. The first letter in
:

John J. The valuation of J is 1. The first let-

is
ter in Holmes is H. The value of H is 8. Add
the 1 and the 8 making 9. 9 would be the har-
mony number of the name John Holmes.
The harmony number can also be changed at
will, as you choose to change the name. Care
should also be exercised in selecting a name
which will give a harmonious vibration to the
life plane number. In doing this it may be
necessary to put in or take out a middle name
or initial.
LIFE PLANE NUMBER 1

Life plane number 1 stands for unity, self-

initiative, will power, independence, the ability
to organize. It is the positive force, strong for
business, able to direct, plan and pioneer the
way.
A number 1 is liable to neglect the spiritual
side of life and go strong toward the physical.
Many good writers, essayists, novelists, poets,
scholars, psychometrists, telepathists and public
speakers are found in the number 1. When
spiritualized become great readers in the world
of psychic phenomena.
1 as a life plane number shows that the soul
has come for the purpose of learning to express
itself; also to understand the meaning of unity;
to be self-reliant; to take the initiative. To aid
and minister to groups of people who are in
need of service. To open their minds to the
knowledge of the divine plan. To show them
the way and encourage them to follow it.
The number 1 comes to complete certain les-
sons which were unfinished in the past and to
so securely build into character the needed
qualities and faculties that nothing can be
shaken from the true spiritual life.
12 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
If this is accomplished the life will enter on
an entirely different phase and new conditions
will come into it.

It is much like going from one class into a

higher one conditioned in certain studies. If
the student makes up the things in which he is
deficient he can remain and go on with the
others; otherwise he must return to the lower
grade.
A number 1 should avoid all possibility of be-
coming crystalized or getting fixed habits of
any kind which they are unable to change. They
must make or formulate their own plans.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 2

Life plane number 2 stands for service, effort,
duty, co-operation, diplomatic dealing with the
establishment of relations. It brings contrast,
change, competition and is the intermediator.
Number
2 has wonderful powers of concen-
trationand possess wonderful magnetic forces,
often become leaders of reforms and political
bodies. 2 is a number of wonderful gifts. Fine
for nurses, healers and doctors.

2 as a life plane number shows that the soul

should be of service as a peacemaker, a fitter-in.
To cultivate a philosophical frame of mind, also
to serve ; to cultivate diplomacy and poise, learn-
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 13

ing to hold steady under all circumstances and

conditions.

The soul comes to learn to be a re-adjuster, a

re-builder; to take existing conditions and build
them over, in this way to serve not only individ-
uals but the race.

Number 2 comes to be of service to souls who

are ill and in need of help. To give spiritual
upliftment and guidance, to live brotherhood, to
be of service to large groups of people. Their
watchword should be universal service.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 3

Life plane number 3 stands for love, wisdom,

power, order, harmony. It is creative, operative,
productive, generative, versatile. Gives variety,
diversity, perfection in fundamentals, art and
inspiration.

3 is a fine number
for public welfare workers,
travelers, lecturers, musicians and salesmen. A
number 3 person should at all times strive to
develope the power of the mind.
3 as a life plane number shows that the soul
should foster the spiritual side of nature, and
learn to harmonize the intellect, emotions and
the physical body; as the spirit grows by giving
while the lower self grows by taking.
14 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
The creative faculty which is prominent
should be cultivated. This is the plane to gain
self-expression through sacrifice and service, a
plane of universal service to the extent or limit
of all powers.
People on the 3 plane come to use their cre-
ative ability —
and they have much along lines —
of art and beauty on all planes. They should
produce for the benefit of humanity and not for
the personal self.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 4

Life plane number 4 stands for strength,

courage, fortitude, prudence with tendency to be
set, stolid, square, is opinionated the key-bearer
;

of nature.
The figure 4 as it used to be made, represented
the upright man carrying the triangle of divinity.
Number 4 people possess many rare gifts.
Some of the greatest scholars and students in
the world come out of this number. Many ex-
cellent mechanics, builders, physical culturists,
drugless physicians and surgeons come out of
number 4. It is a number of success for any line
of work which requires a strong, forceful
physical nature.
4 as a life plane number shows that the soul
came to this plane as a worker, not a shirker,
;

NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 15

honest both morally and materially. 4 comes

to transmute all vices into virtues, to become
self-initiative making practical application of
their abilities.
4 should learn the lesson of universal service
and brotherhood, service from the spiritual
standpoint rather than the physical. They can
bring solace to sick souls.
4 must learn to finish what is begun, be it
pleasant or otherwise, and to do that which will
be of most help to spiritual growth, even though
there is great desire to help physically. 4 should
be just, merciful, thus attaining the resurrection
and victory of the higher self.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 5

Life plane number 5 stands for the senses

which are the means by which we contact differ-
ent planes of matter. It is the plane of contact,
the psychic and the rational, represents the form
side of life, the unconquered, the balance.

5 signifies illumination of the concrete mind

theory united with practice. Number 5 should
cultivate the power of concentration and learn
to develope their personal magnetism.

Many doctors, lawyers, healers and psychics

come out of the number 5. A
5 person should
16 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
develop the spiritual tendencies, for by doing so
they can become very successful in business.
5 as a life plane number shows that the five
organs of sense should be employed. 5 is pre-
eminently nature's number of physical form, and
it is only through the five organs of sense that

the five contacts the visible or objective world.

Number5 designates clearness of physical

sight, but density of subtle sight. Number 5
should learn to resist the physical senses.
Number 5 comes
to learn independence, unity,
justice and dependability, to develop a philo-
sophic attitude of mind and the power to be one
with many; to be creative along the lines of
service.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 6

Life plane number 6 stands for effort, combat,

activity, fairness, influence, uprightness, truth,
virtue, the bringing forth. The sixth sense is,

as a rule very well developed. Number 6 is fit

to take charge of big things in public welfare
work, strong for home building, realize the im-
portance of the spiritual uplift of the human
race.
Number 6 people make wonderful scholars,
philosophers, nurses, doctors, fathers, mothers
and statesmen. Number six have wonderful
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 17

psychic powers and should develop themselves

along this line. The specific work for number
six is teaching.

6 as a life plane number shows that the soul

has come to learn discrimination between the
real and the unreal, to know the lasting from
the fleeting; to learn to conquer through opposi-
tion to gain victory over the lower self, to give
;

universal unselfish service.

Number 6 comes to be just in all dealings; to
be willing to stand for the things which are right
and, if need be, to fight for them. Patience,
endurance, faith and devotion are to be builded
in the character. Number 6 is the key number
to the higher planes of spiritual unfoldment.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 7

Life plane number 7 stands for victory, self-

expression, synthesis, analysis. Seven is the
number of perfection of form on all planes of
manifestation, introspection, consummation and
attainment.
There are seven streams of force in the num-
ber seven, which are blood, nerve, pranic, emo-
tional, mental, psychic and spiritual. Many dis-
tinguished poets, writers, teachers and musi-
cians are found in number seven. It is a plane of
great leadership and high spiritual development.
18 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
7 as a plane number shows that the soul
life
came to this earth plane for universal, unselfish
service without thought of recompense. Seven
governs creation's laws, in man, nature and the
cosmos.
Number 7 stands for the perfection of the
personality. Number seven indicates the power
to assemble facts or material and put them
together, to make a perfect working instrument,
along the line the desires tend, either materially,
intellectually or spiritually.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 8

Life plane number 8 stands for power, growth,

conjunction, expansion and struggle; it re-
presents the law of involution and evolution,
also the law of cause and effect. "It is a time
of being weighed in the balance"; a separating
of the sheep from the goats.
8 is a. of success, a fine business num-
number
ber. Great salesmen and managers of big busi-
ness are made on the number 8 plane. Number
8 should always aim-high in hope and work ever
remembering that a noble, logical diagram once
recorded will never die, but long after they are
gone will be a living thing growing with inten-
sity.
8 as a life plane number shows that the soul
comes to gain poise, balance, power. To gain
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 19

strength to evolve or express the powers gath-

ered through synthesizing of the previous
numbers.
Number comes to pay attention to the
eight
business world and learn the law of financial
and spiritual success. Service to many without
thought or desire, for appreciation is the watch-
word of number 8.

Number 8 comes to serve because it is a

pleasure. Number8 should learn all that can
be learned about the business world, but should
be ever ready as a steward of the divine.

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 9

Life pane number 9 stands for a firm founda-

tion, that which is crystalized into firmness,
positive, unchangeable in its opinion. 9 is the
power of wisdom through knowledge.
Plane number 9 represents a high essence of
universal influence. Some of the world's great-
est scholars, musicians, teachers, lawyers, judges
and psychics are on the number 9 plane.
9 as a life plane number shows that the soul
is forming a firm foundation for the next life.
It represents a progress of completion, equalizing
the spiritual, intellectual and material qualities,
and building in the spirit of philanthropy.
20 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
Number 9 is for God, man and nature, it re-
presents the divine idea in all its abstract power.
9 is harmonizing with the divine, and correlating
nature's forces, the acquiring of spiritual
strength, courage and wisdom, self-renunciation
and self-control, a preparing for the next, and
highest plane in this incarnation, "THE I AM."

LIFE PLANE NUMBER 10, THE I AM

Here the Pioneer, Creative, Cosmos, Physical
Kingdom with Sincerity, Justice, Spiritual Suc-
cess, The Light and Love Divine come together
to form the I AM, the Spirit, the Soul, the GOD
WITHIN. I AM is the highest plane in this
earth life, it is "LIVING THE LIFE." Trans-
mutation, Resurrection, Body and Mind Illu-
mination. The one creative Spirit which is the
perfect man "GOD," who is above ALL, through
All and in You All. (Ephesians 4. 6).
Remember that God is in you and you are in
him. Remember that you should think of your
self as dwelling in God. Remember that in
truth you are healthy, happy and prosperous
because your Father, Mother God is with you
always. Remember that you know God through
your real self, your spiritual self I AM.
Remember that you never limit your I AM
by connecting it with any attribute that is not
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 21

true of God. Say "I AM GOOD," I AM happy

but never I AM sick or I AM unhappy.
Remember that in your true identity you are
a son of God Therefore always speak the truth
!

about yourself, never limiting your powers by

the seeming conditions of the external world.
Remember that it is good for you to sit quietly
for a few minutes every day communing with
the father, mother God through your spiritual
I AM.
Remember that by connecting your I AM with
ideas of God's unlimited power, health, happi-
ness and abundance you will bring those con-
ditions into your life inwardly and outwardly.
Remember to have no fear, "GOD IS LOVE."
And perfect love casts out all fear. God is with
us constantly therefore we need have no fear.
(1st John 4:8 and 4:16).
Remember where God is there is no lack of
any good thing. Remember that Jesus said that
the Father worked through him and that others
should do even greater things than he had done.
(John 14:12).
Remember that you cannot afford to try to
shut your self away from God because of your
ignorance or fear. Remember that God in the
midst of you is mighty and that by realizing his
power you will prosper in all good things.
To reach the I AM
each soul must live up to
the life and the conception of Truth as revealed
22 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
to him in his ownreligion, nation and environ-
ment. Waste no force in frivolous or negative
chatter; speak only positive words, words of
love, words of power.

Love divine is the one and only reality which

endures from eternity to eternity. Your body is
the Temple of the Living God. (1st Cor. 16, 17)
It is your duty to see that in every way it is kept
a fit place for the God within. I must realize
that perfect love radiates from my I AM
to the
uttermost parts of my mental Kingdom. I must
realize that my true source is God. I must
realize I AMone with goodness, health, pros-
perity, happiness, peace and all things good,
because I AMone with the Spirit of God.
I will fear no for thou art with me.
evil:
(Psalms 23: 4). I believe that what so ever I
ask of the Father within me in the name of Jesus
Christ, will be done for me according to his
promise. (Matthew 7: 7, Luke 11: 9). I will
find my real I AM
(My Christ Spirit) and make
it ruler of my Kingdom. I AM
FEARLESS,
FREE. No material appearance can dominate
me. THIS I WOULD RATHER HAVE THAN
ALL MATERIAL FAME.
THE SYMBOL OF THE

The symbol of the is the symbol of the deity,

God. The beginning of light from darkness on
this earth plane. The is called naught be-
cause it always was and always will be. It is
the spirit of God that moved upon the face of
the deep.
The symbol of the is God emerging from
the egg of darkness into the light. It is the
golden egg from which this earth plane was
hatched.

THE SYMBOL OF THE POINT WITHIN

THE CIRCLE

The point within the circle O is a symbol

which makes the connecting link between the
and the 1. As a deity God emerges from the
egg of darkness the creation for this earth plane
began.
God created the heaven and the earth, and
the earth was without form, and void and dark-
;

ness was upon the face of the deep, and the

spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
(Genesis 1: 1, 2). And God said "Let there be
24 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
light" and there was light. (Genesis 1:3). Thus
was the beginning of this earth plane.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 1

The pioneer symbol No. 1 shows that as the

darkness began to fade into light, God saw that
it was good and God divided the light from the
:

darkness, and God called the light day, and the

darkness he called night. (Genesis 1: 4, 5).
of the number 1 reminds us that
The symbol
we must go through the pioneer plane of spirit-
ual unfoldment to see 'The Light."

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 2

Thecreative symbol No. 2 shows that God

said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of
the waters, and let it divide the waters from the
waters. And God made the firmament, and
divided the waters which were under the firma-
ment from the waters which were above the fir-
mament: and God called the firmament heaven.
(Genesis 1: 6, 7, 8).
The symbol of the number 2 reminds us that
in order to reach the higher planes of spiritual
unfoldment we must assist in the grand plan of
spiritual creation.
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 25

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 3

The cosmos symbol No. 3 shows that God said,

Let the waters under the heaven be gathered
together unto one place, and let the dry land ap-
pear: and it was so. And God called the dry
land earth: and the gathering together of the
waters called he seas: and God said, let the
earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed,
and the fruit tree yielding fruit, after his kind,
whose seed is in itself. (Genesis 1 9, 10, 11).
:

The cosmos symbol No. 3 reminds us of the

number of the trinity, hence divine. It symbol-
izes the father, mother and the son the Father,
;

Son and Holy Ghost. The triune GOD within us.

It shows us also man, woman and the attrac-
tion between them united in the divine. As
male and female are now "lords of creation,"
so must they be redeemers, and lift up the Christ
within them to draw all men there unto.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 4

The physical kingdom symbol No. 4 shows

that God said, Let there be light in the firmament
of heaven to divide the day from the night; let
them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days,
and years to give light upon the earth.
26 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
And God made two great lights; the greater
light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule
the night he made the stars also. And God set
:

them in the firmament of the heaven to give

light upon the earth. (Genesis 1: 14, 15, 16,
17).
The physical kingdom symbol No. 4 reminds
us that in the grand plan of creation, man and
woman were evolved to become co-partners with
the Godhead, in replenishing the earth after
their kind, and establishing the New Jerusalem,
or the Mystic City Four Square on this earth
plane.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 5

The sincerity symbol No. 5 shows that God

said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the
moving creature that hath life, and fowl that
may fly above the earth in the open firmament
of heaven. And God created great whales, and
every living creature that moveth, which the
waters brought forth abundantly, after their
kind, and every winged fowl after his kind and
:

God blessed them, saying be fruitful, and mul-

tiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the
fowl multiply in the earth. (Genesis, 1: 20,
21, 22).
The sincerity symbol No. 5 reminds us we
have passed the apex of physical evolution, and
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 27

that we stand midway between 1 and 10, that

we have reached the mid-point in the scale of
evolution and have become the medium through
which the lower kingdom shall be lifted up
toward a higher spiritual understanding, hence
we present our bodies, a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable
service. (Romans 12: 1).

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 6

The justice symbol No. 6 shows that God said,

Let us make man in our image, after our like-
ness: and let them have dominion over the fish
of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over
the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the
image of God created he him male and female
:

created he them. And God blessed them, and

God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have
dominion over every living thing that moveth
upon the earth. And God saw every thing that
he made and, behold it was very good. (Genesis
1: 26, 27, 28).

Justice symbol No. 6 reminds us of the divine

creative force in man, the soul principle reaching
out to find its spiritual home in the plane of
28 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
number 7. The symbol is one of work and
service, and reminds us that we must, serve and
work to reach the plane of spiritual success on
the plane number 7. It is the symbol of th£
double trinity and the key to the tripple crown
in the number 9 plane.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 7

The spiritual success symbol No. 7 shows us

that God ended his work which he had made ;

and he rested on the seventh day from all his

work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day, and sancti-
fied it; because that in it he had rested from all
his work which God created and made.
(Genesis 2: 2, 3).

Spiritual success symbol No. 7 is the symbol

of spiritual perfection, the Christ consciousness,
"Life Eternal/' the spiritual father of all living,
THE CHRIST GIFT.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 8

The Light symbol No. 8 shows us we are on

our way to clear mental and spiritual vision,
that we are beginning to give forth that bright-
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 29

ness which will lead to mental and spiritual illu-

mination.
No. 8 is the symbol of the ceaseless breath of
the cosmos, the outbreathing and the inbreath-
ing by which the equilibrium of the soul is at-
tained.

The number 8 symbol shows that we have

learned the lessons of the lower planes and have
demonstrated our fitness to pass on and receive
the initiation which must precede our entrance
to the plane of number 9. It is the crucifixion
of the physical dying on the cross of the spiritual.
The Light symbol number 8 symbolizes the
fact that we are preparing to sit forever at the
right hand of God the father.

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 9

Love divine symbol No. 9 shows us that we

have entered the supreme court of spiritual jus-
tice, and have been initiated into a plane of life
that never changes. It is the symbol of the
trinity of trinities, the triple crown.

It isthe symbol of silence in which all former

activity is swallowed up in the initiation of a
new life. It is the last symbol which brings us
to an end, and prepares us for a new spiritual
manifestation.
30 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
Love Divine Symbol No. 9 is the passing from
darkness into light, where we give up the
physical ghost, and with a spiritual voice cry,
"FATHER, INTO THY HANDS I COMMEND
MY SPIRIT. (Luke 23:46).

THE SYMBOL OF THE NUMBER 10

of the Number 10 is the symbol of

The symbol
completion, for it is the expression of all planes
of creation, and returns once more to Unity,
Deity, the Alpha and Omega.

The 10 symbol shows us we have completed

this cycle of life and that we are ready to begin
a higher cycle of evolution, and a co-worker
with the divine.
The 10 symbol reminds us we started on the
plane of number 1 as a little child, and that God
has held our hand and guided us in our evolution
during this cycle of life through all the planes
from and that we are now ready to sit at
1 to 9,
the right hand of God the Father, and hear
"THE MORNING STARS SING TOGETHER,
AND ALL THE SONS OF GOD SHOUT FOR
JOY." (Job 38:7).
THE CHALLENGE TO NUMBERS

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 1

The Challenge to number 1 is, that if you are

ever ruined it will be due to exaggerated pride,
foolish ventures and voluntary mistakes.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 2

The challenge to number 2 that wishing for

is,

things possible is equivalent to creating them,

while wishing for things impossible is to prepare
your own ruin.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 3

The challenge to number 3 is, that the empire

of the world belongs to those who possess the
sovereignity of the mind, the light which reveals
all the mysteries of life. If 3 is prepared for the
events which are to come, they can be met in
such a manner that you may reverse anything
unfavorable in the daily life.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 4

The challenge to number 4 is that everything

in life is a nearly even struggle between the
32 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
good and bad, and that every action brings in its
wake a reaction. Knowing this you should be
most cautious in thoughts and actions.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 5

The challengeto number 5 is, that wisdom has

to be appealed to in every circumstance in life.
It should also teach you to be discreet and silent
in all critical circumstances.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 6

The challenge to number 6 is, that if you want

only what is true, what is just, what is within
your reach, if you will keep silent as to your de-
signs, if finally, you add perseverance to your
rest, you will one day find yourself in possession
of the Key of Power.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 7

The challenge to number 7 means that you

must sacrifice yourself for others without ex-
pecting aught but gratitude as a reward. For-
giveness is your grandest gift, as its exercise will
bring you closer to the Divine Father.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 8

The challenge to number 8 is, that you must so
husband your forces, both mental, physical and
spiritual, that you may be able to gradually wear
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 33

out all obstacles, little by little, as the continual

dropping of water will wear out a stone.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 9

The challenge to number 9 is, that if your

passions are not subdued and kept firmly under
control by the power of your will, it will prove
fatal to your future plans. If people conspire
against you you are liable to be kept in ignorance
of the matter.

THE CHALLENGE TO No. 10

The challenge to number 10 is, people in life

may approach you in the guise of friends and
attempt to cajole you with flattery. Your life
can be a happy one and no one will be able to
take your happiness from you if you will only
keep within the limits of your power for good
and the sacred sanctuary of your own heart.

thians 13: 13). And this is life eternal, that
they might know thee the* only true God, and
Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:
3).
THE THREE MEANINGS OF NUMBERS

Each number has three meanings. Physical,

mental and spiritual. Each soul must cut its own
curve on this life plane in order to fulfill the
mission the soul was sent here to accomplish.
Each isas important as the other in the great
plan. Some souls come to perform a physical
mission, some a mental mission and some a
spiritual mission. Each soul to its important
task of helping to perfect the evolution of man-
kind.
Example The life plane of John Holmes is 5.
:

John Holmes was born January 2nd, 1892, 1st

month, 2nd day. Reducing the 1st month, 2nd
day 1892 by adding, we get 23. By adding the
2 and the 3 we get 5, the life plane number of
John Holmes, born January 2nd, 1S92.
In order to find if the mission of John Holmes
was physical, mental or spiritual we take the I
and 3 and associate them with the life plane
number of John Holmes which is 5. We now
make John Holmes a 23 5. —
The 5 would make John Holmes sincere, the
2 would make John Holmes creative, the 3 would
44 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
make John Holmes spiritual. So in analyzing
the mission of John Holmes with the life plane
number 5 we find his mission one of sincerity
through the creative and spiritual planes.
If John Holmes were a 14 —5 or a 32 —
5 or a
— — —
41 5 or a 50 5 or a 59 5 or a 68 5 or a —
— — —
77 5 or an 86 5 or a 95 5 his mission would

not be exactly the same as the 23 5 plane.
If he were a 14 — 5 his mission would be pio-
neering through the physical toward the plane
of sincerity. If he were a 32 —
5 his mission
would be spiritual through the creative toward
the plane of sincerity. If he were a 41 —
5 his
mission would be physical through the pioneer-
ing toward the sincerity plane.
If John Holmes were a 50 —
5 his mission
would be sincerity in the extreme toward high
spiritual. If he were a 59 —
5 his mission would
be a high sense of sincerity with great love di-
vine. If he were a 68 —5 his mission would be
justice through success toward the sincerity
plane.

If John Holmes were a 77 —

5 his mission
would be one of great spiritual success through
the sincerity plane. If he were an 86 5 his —
mission would be success through the plane of
justice to the plane of sincerity. If he were a

95 5 his mission would be highly spiritual with
love divine through the high plane of sincerity.

RULES OF ANALYSIS

After analyzing the life plane number of a soul

it is also necessary to analyze the name number
and the harmony number. The same rule which
applies to the life plane number will also apply
to the name number and the harmony number.

A little study and concentration on the above

table will soon acquaint one with the proper
mode of procedure.
REINCARNATION

In order for each soul to gain all the experi-

ences it needs on this earth plane it is necessary
many times for the soul to be reborn again and
again.

No one isready to learn the truth of reincar-

nation to whom it does not appeal. Only those
who feel an inward urge to know the whole truth
need have it given them.

The whole object of rebirth is for each soul

to attain all-around soul-perfection, learn all the
lessons life can teach, and thus be prepared to do
its work in the grand plan.

Even if it were possible for a soul to gain all

knowledge, and have all experiences in one life,
it may be the idea in the great plan that the soul
shall come back to this plane as a master or
teacher.
Comparing our life period to a day, as well
might we expect a child to acquire the experi-
ence and wisdom of a life-time between sunrise
and sunset. Perfection could not be attained in
one life.
48 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
each soul were required to redeem in one
If
mistakes and spiritualize every atom with
life all
which it had been connected in even one life,
the cycle of necessity would be never-ending.
Instead of this, all tasks that are beyond the
strength of the soul in any one incarnation are
held back until it has grown strong enough little
by little to work them out.
Each soul is judged at the close of each life-
cycle by the sum total of how much it has over-
come, how much the lower self it has illuminated
by the higher spiritual consciousness.

The I AM is the higher self, the over-shadow-

ing father, mother, God. It is the true self, a
spark of the infinite-incarnation again and again
in a physical body for the purpose of gaining ex-
perience in matter and, through its forming of
physical atoms in an earthly body to help re-
deem (Spiritual) matter.
The body wears out and is cast aside, just as
a garment is, and a new one put on but the self
;

never changes, but it gains more experience and

needs a better garment from time to time until,
finally, it masters the matter which makes up its
physical garment and immortalizes it so that the
personality; the mortal puts on immortality and
becomes one with its father.

Why is not the memory

of past lives more
common? There is a deep reason for this. Most
souls find the memory of the trials of one life as
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 49

much as the personality can bear, therefore the

complete remembrance of all it had endured in
its many lives would tend to crush it.

We will not remember all until we have

gained the poise which nothing can disturb;
until we have become centered in the thought
that to manifest divine love in perfection is all
that is worth striving for.

The object of reincarnation is for a soul to

gain wisdom out of every condition.
Reincarnation does not mean that a human
soul can be reborn in an animal body, or an
animal soul be reborn in a human body. Each
to its kind. A tree soul to a tree, a flower soul
to a flower, an animal soul to an animal, a human
soul to a human.
It has not been shown what we shall be, you
will not see it in the flesh you now inhabit. You
may come back over and over millions of times
in future hundreds of millions of years, each
time to enjoy a life more nearly perfect on a
planet more highly civilized.
If not, if we go from here to live and work
elsewhere, others will succeed us on this planet.
They will enjoy its glorious future and the re-
sults of the work that we do now. Let that be
your comfort and your incentive to good work.
INCARNATION

Incarnation in numbers means to evolve, to

develop, unfold, expand physically, mentally
and spiritually.

As incarnation follows incarnation in rather

rapid succession, we grow intellectually, physic-
ally and spiritually through contact with the peo-
ple about us, and by taking advantage of every
opportunity proffered us.
For the gaining of experience, it is obvious
that the growth of the consciousness must take
place by a process of ensoulment.
Incarnation after incarnation passes, each
with its joys and sorrows, its opportunities and
successes and
its difficulties, its its failures until
we reach the plane of I AM.
Just as a child goes to school day after day,
learning lessons, gathering experience and
passing from grade to grade, so must we in our
greater soul life come to this earth plane to learn
lessons, gather experience by incarnating from
plane to plane.
Regardless of the life plane on which a soul
comes to this planet, by diligent effort on the
part of the individual they can reach the plane
of I AM in this cycle of life.
DESTINY

The destiny of a soul in this incarnation

should be the plane I AM. The plane one is
living on can only be known by the progress one
makes on this earth plane.
One can make one's own terms with destiny.
If one holds a spiritual attitude toward life on
this earth plane they can incarnate to the highest
spiritual plane.

In order to reach the plane I AMone must

learn how to express themselves on each plane
as they progress. If one holds a physical atti-
tude toward life on this earth plane one can
attract to one's self physical attributes.

If one holds a mental attitude toward life on

this earth plane one can attract to one's self
mental attributes.
If one holds a spiritual attitude toward life on
this earth plane one can attract to one's self
spiritual attributes.

NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 79
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Even the weakest among us have some power.

Ifyou cannot have what you like, try to like
what you have.
No matter how low you may some un-
find
fortunate, always remember they were some-
one's child.

When in the darkest moment of despair, it's

often the time that help is nearest.

Don't wait for your opportunity, make it.

Character is the poor man's capital.

Always laugh when you can; it's a cheap

medicine.
Control your temper or it will control you.

To think twice before you speak will be found

safest.

Go as you please, but please as you go.

In the race of life common sense has the right-
of-way.
A jolly physician is often better than all his
medicine.
NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY 81

A woman with charming manners can move

mountains.

A great deal of talent is lost to the world for

lack of courage.

Get the key to life and you will know what

to expect of yourself.

It is not what we know but what we do with

what we know that counts.

When you think you are in trouble, you will

find the trouble in you.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in

pictures of silver. (Proverbs 25-11).
Wisdom the principal thing: therefore get
is
wisdom: and with all thy getting get under-
standing. (Proverbs 4-5).
For wisdom isbetter than rubies and all the:

things that may be desired are not to be com-

pared to it. (Proverbs 8-11).
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be
yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase
in learning. (Proverbs 9-9).
Wise men lay up knowledge : but the mouth
of the foolish is near destruction. (Proverbs 10-
14).

Poverty and shame shall be to him that re-

fuseth instruction but he that regardeth reproof
:

shall be honoured. (Proverbs 13-18).

82 NUMERAL PHILOSOPHY
A man that hath friends must shew himself
friendly. (Proverbs 18-24).
There gold, and a multitude of rubies: but
is
the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
(Proverbs 20-15).
Train up a child in the way he should go and :

when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Pro-

verbs 22-6).
And by knowledge shall the chambers be
filled with all precious and pleasant riches. (Pro-
verbs 24-4).
Even a
child is known by his doings. (Pro-
verbs 20-11).
Wisdom is before him that hath understand-
ing. (Proverbs 17-24).
A merry heart maketh a cheerful counte-
nance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is
broken. (Proverbs 15-13).
The law
of the wise is a fountain of life. (Pro-
verbs 13-14).
A Thought for the Ending

When you would hurt him

who has done you a wrong, you
poison your mind and you join
the great throng, of spiteful,
malicious and venomous
things, worms, wasps and bees
who exist by their stings.

Why waste your soul juice

and your good life's reserves,

when all that you punish is

only your nerves. Step out in

the open and breathe the fresh
air of love and forgiveness,
and then just compare, the
goodness and badness and
you're sure to find, the best
thing to do is just to be kind
