Vector: Laser cutting Machine

SLTL – The World First manufacturer of Fiber Laser Cutting system has introduced ‘Vector’
fiber laser cutting machine, considering specific needs of metal cutting industry. The word vector
itself essentially means “line.” Therefore, the designing and cutting process relies on lines to
create the desired output. The laser starts at a predetermined point and continues along the course
of the line until the shape has been cut out. Thus, this machine provides a valuable function for
sign makers and those working with digital graphics because it allows designs to be cut out of a
wide range of substrates with the high accuracy and quality that is provided by vector cutting.
The machine also comes with innovative auto nozzle cleaning and changing feature.

2.2.4 Description of important products

Matchless Efficiency
Even drives have the potential to boost your electricity usage. Power-saving technology in the
Eco-friendly Vector uses less than 10 units per hour. Compared to conventional laser cutting
technologies, the Fiber Laser System delivers a 50% energy savings. Vector is an extremely
efficient model for the metal cutting process since its advanced fume suction technology removes
more than 90% of the fumes from the laser cut area.

Advanced Control with Intelligent Nesting

In order to cut down on Labour and material waste, the optimal nesting software is more
important. The profile is best planned using features like common cut, dream sequence, late cut,
corner loop, and many more.

Dynamic Edge Control

When a laser is correctly focused and adjusted for a material, it may create parts with edges that
have a mirror-like surface, a square top edge, and smooth bottom edges. With axial motion across
the system, dynamic edges control (DEC) reduces inflammation and colour on the power sides of
the synchronized laser. The dynamic edge control (DEC) mechanism used by the cutting system
synchronizes laser intensity with axis speed to lessen burn and striation at the edges.

Head Crash Protection

The cutting head will immediately return to the home position in the event of a contact between
the work piece and the head thanks to Vector's intelligent technology, which has built-in sensors
that scan for any protruding particles on the cutting table. The smart technology helps to prevent
collateral damage to the work piece and the cutting head in the event of any such disruptions in
the working profile by halting the laser head's motion until the route is clean.

2.2.6 Applications and Significance of the Products

Dynamic Edge for Automotive Components

Laser Cutting is proficient for Automotive components from Cutting large components like the
body parts of the car to the side doors & metal panels, all can be given the shape through Vector
2D fiber laser cutting machine. Versatile cutting and shaping can be designed and customized as
per the requirement.

Quality finishing for Metal Cutting

One of the most common uses for laser cutting is to cut metal with precision & accuracy. It can
be used on a huge number of different metals, including steel, tungsten, aluminum, nickel &
brass. Regardless of the industry or the work or whatever be the thickness of the metals, laser
cutting can be used to deliver the same clean cuts and smooth finishes every time on time. It is
used to cut metal for components and structural shapes, such as for the body of a car or the casing
of a mobile phone.
Gives perfect shape for Utensils

At lower power settings, it is possible to use a laser cutting machine for utensil manufacturing
industry. It can partially cut pieces of sheet metal leaving a smooth, regular groove on the
surface. Its functionary can be used to cut & shape steel plates, trays, steel cutlery like spoons,
knives, forks, serving plates, oven faceplates, custom-made plates, stainless kitchen racks,
stainless steel cookware.

2.2.7 Environmental impact

One of the biggest concerns, therefore, for the modern manufacturing industry is to turn up with
environment-friendly technologies. As a result, many large companies are investing extensively
in R&D and have made sustainability a part of their brand identity.

If we talk about the Laser Industry, there are so many uses for lasers, from manufacturing cars to
material fabrication. It is staggering how much of an impact laser have on daily life. Because of
this wide use, there has been a dire need for these technologies to be environment friendly.

Laser technology is revolutionizing and making the automotive sector more sustainable. Lasers
are utilized to make a lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicle with lower emissions. Laser-based
manufacturing processes are also minimizing the cost of automobiles. This is because lasers can
cut production costs by reducing the amount of material waste. It contributes to the development
of cleaner, more efficient automobiles that are more inexpensive to customers.

2.2.8 FIBER LASER VS CO2

Till 1997 industry used to use traditional methods for cutting metals, SLTL then developed
India's first CO2 laser cutting machine for metal cutting. But due to its harmful effects on the
environment and other challenges we abandoned the technique and began developing a more
environment friendly metal cutting technology. This is when SLTL Group became the first-ever
company to come up with the Fiber Laser System in India, the patent for which we hold to date.

Hence despite the common goal for which both fiber lasers and CO2 lasers work, following
points confirm the environment-friendly nature.

FIBER LASERS OVER CO2, REDUCED POWER CONSUMPTION

1. Fiber lasers have better electrical efficiency than CO2 lasers. This makes them more
efficient and environmentally friendly due to the benefits of lower running costs.
2. Fiber laser cutting’s general energy consumption can be reduced by 70 percent compared
to traditional CO2 laser cutting.
3. Fiber laser cutting minimizes the operational costs and saves resources.
4. Fiber laser offers 50% longer servicing intervals and 50% lower servicing costs.
Negligible material Wastage with Smart Nesting Software

The level of control that users can hold is what makes SLTLs fiber laser cutting so useful. You
are given total support when it comes to beam length, duration, intensity, and heat output,
allowing you to perfectly adapt the beam to the surface that you are working within.

In the area of fiber laser, SLTL Group also came up with ‘Smart Nesting Software’ which is in-
house developed software, that has been allowing us to produce less scrap and dumping material.
Over the years it has helped the SLTL team reduce material wastage significantly, again making
it a more environment-friendly method for cutting metals. Besides, manufacturers are always
looking for ways to reduce manufacturing scrap and waste. SLTLs nesting software can help
manufacturers reduce their scrap production by improving the number of cut-outs that can be
made in a single sheet of metal which also increases efficiency. More cut-outs per sheet mean
less wastage of material per sheet. This in turn allows manufacturers to make more quality parts
with less total material investment. Besides, manufacturers are always looking for ways to reduce
manufacturing scrap and waste. Lasers can help manufacturers reduce their scrap production by
improving the number of cut-outs that can be made in a single sheet of metal. More cut-outs per
sheet means less wasted material per sheet. This in turn allows manufacturers to make more parts
with less total material investment.

Fiber Laser Marking machines are among the greatest ways to leave aesthetic imprints on any
surface or component of automobiles, and they are perfect for engraving, printing, coding, and
traceability imprints that endure forever. For the range of sustainability solutions, one of the best
addition additions is the laser cleaning machine, which is best suited for cleaning battery cells
and removing them from almost all metal surfaces. And not just this, the technocrats have
developed indigenous EMI/EMC shielding & testing of Automotive.
2.2.9 Present status in terms of market demand and way forward
SLTL Group (Sahajanand Laser Technology Limited) is the company that has defined what is
called a "Trailblazer". The innovation is into the foundation of this organization, as just after its
establishment, SLTL has invented a fiber laser cutting machine. A machine, which went on to

The organizational hierarchy of Siddhi Engineers and Samruddhi Engineers is not overly
complicated. Executive Directors are found at Level 1 Grade, followed by Managerial Grade,
Supervisory Grade, and Laborers at the bottom of the hierarchy's four levels. These hierarchies
aid the business in completing its consignments and delivering them on schedule.

13. Aluminum Tube for Automobile

2.3.8 Manufacturing Process of Aluminum Precision Tube:

Firstly, aluminum tube is collected from their storage area and transfer to conveyer with the help
of roller. After that Aluminum rolling lubricants is applied on tube. The role of the lubricant is
threefold: to reduce/prevent direct contact between the roll and aluminum surfaces, to extract heat
generated by friction and deformation, to transport metal fines and debris from the roll bite area
to the filter.

After that mandrel is applied between tube. The mandrel is of importance to improving both the
forming limit and the bending quality. So, the research on the role of the mandrel is of great
significance in the thin-walled tube bending process.  Now tube will move towards die section
where tube size is going to be drawn as per requirement of customer. An die is a thick steel disk
with an opening — and malleable aluminum alloy passes through it during the process.

The opening in the die matches the cross-sectional profile that’s specified by the extrusion
designer. Typically, dies are produced from H13 steel and heat-treated, making them strong
enough to withstand the intense pressure — up to 15,000 tons of it — that can be involved in the
extrusion process. They come with support tools — also usually made from H13 steel — to help
withstand this pressure and lengthen die life.

Now this tube is transfer to section where annealing process of tube will take place to provide
extra strength of tube and also help to decrease oxidation of tube.

Present status in terms of market demand and way forward:

The current market of precision tubes has grown in a large amount as they are widely used
thermal industries, oil, and gas stations, automotive, ship building, power plants, sugar mills,
cement and construction industries, etc. ISRO is doing continuously doing R&D to make their
spacecrafts/satellites better and for that they also require the pipes which transfer the fuel from
tank to engine, this will help the company to grow their name and grow by financially as well.
Because of this they will be getting better in their R&D which will help them to develop their
products more precisely. Their company is currently having staff of 100+ employees and will get
bigger as their business grows more.

2.3.9 Environmental impact:

Siddhi engineers manufactures precision tubes of required length but when it is delivered to
consumers, they need to weld them in order to make them work. In welding, inert gases like
hydrogen, oxygen, argon, helium, CO2, etc. to provide the shield around the weld. This is
harmful for environment as it causes air pollution. In all types of welding, fumes and gases are
released as air pollutants and due to high temperature during welding, different substances from
arc are vaporized. Different parameters in welding causes the air pollution for e.g.: ampere,
current, voltage, arc and gas pressure and temperature, the electrodes used for welding, and the
main point duration of welding.

2.3.10 Competitors and other threats for existence:

The company manufacturers three main product ranges:

1. Precision Aluminum re-drawn tubes

2. Bobbins and cops (textile machine accessories)

3. Engineering Plastic extrusion (ABS pipes etc.)

The competition for these product ranges is from the foreign players as well. This scenario of
competition is shown in Table can be summarized as below:
3 Learning from industrial orientation:

I learn from experts, decision-makers, and leaders in the sector through the trips to their facilities.
It helps students gain a thorough awareness of how the industry operates and motivates them with
their management and leadership abilities. It gives me access to the most recent industry trends
and innovations.

The industrial tours provide me the chance to see actual machinery, workstations, systems,
factories, assembly lines, etc. and understand how the system functions from the knowledgeable
professionals in the field. Such hands-on teaching is crucial for someone like me who has always
learned via imagination. As a result of what they have learnt in the curriculum, I also get to
understand about the company's operational and production policies and can relate to them.

I learned how professionals’ function at their jobs and how they apply various industry-specific
ideas, such as benchmarking, quality analysis, just-in-time manufacturing, etc., during the
industrial trips. I gained knowledge on how experts manage hundreds of people simultaneously
while upholding the organization's quality standards and goals. Additionally, they discover how
the various professional groups—including employees, engineers, and managers—cooperate to
accomplish a shared objective.
