Pakistan is the 4th largest producer of cotton with the third largest spinning
capacity in Asia after China and India and contributes 5% to the global spinning
capacity. At present there are
1,221 ginning units
442 spinning units
124 large spinning units
425 small units which produce textile.
1. The first step of textile value chain is taking the raw material (cotton) from
the plants.
2. The second step is to take that cotton to the process of ginning. It is a
process in which the cotton is being extracted from the seeds, the cotton
fibers are separated and proceeds further to make fabrics.
3. The third step is spinning. The separated cotton fibers are spin in a large
machine it is done to separate and clean the fibers before they are fed into
carding machines.
4. The fourth step is weaving. It is used to make fabrics. The two components
are involved in this wrap and weft. Wrap are the straight patters of yarns and
wefts are the rotating or colloidal patterns of yarns.
5. The fifth step is finishing. Once all above four steps are done the fabric is
being dyed or move to further printing process to make is more aesthetic and
presentable to the consumers.
Once all the process is done the fabric is being manufactured according to the
customers demand. It can be of following types:
These fabrics are being delivered to the markets and some of them are exported.
The largest textile mills are located in Faisalabad, it is called as the hub of textile
industry.

Textile sector of Pakistan contributes 8.5% to the GDP of Pakistan. In addition, the
sector employs about 45% of the total labor force in the country (and 38% of the
manufacturing workers).
