FIVE PHASES OF
VIDEO
PRODUCTION

Phase 1 Development

Phase 2 Pre-Production

Phase 3 Production

Phase 4 Post-Production

Phase 5 Marketing & Distribution

Phase 1:
Development
 The first step in our process is to discuss
with the client what they want to achieve
with their video and figure out how we can
build upon their initial thinking.
Here are some initial questions we often ask our
clients:
 Why do you want a video?
 Who is the audience?
 Where will the video initially be published?
 What is the marketing and distribution plan?
Phase 2: Pre-
Production

 This is when we do everything, we need to prepare for a

successful video shoot:
 Synopsis
 writing the script
 creating storyboards
 preparing a production schedule and so on.
Phase 3:
Production

 The main task of production (or “principle photography,” if

you’re a film geek) is to capture the project assets.
 shooting
 create animations, etc.
Phase 4: Post-
Production

 And here is where you turn something special into

something final. In this phase,
 edit the video
 add music
 audio effects
 Voiceover
 adjust sound and color
 add titles and credits
 create special effects
Phase 5: Marketing
& Distribution

 Once the project is out in the world, we need people to

watch it. So we’ll shift our efforts to the marketing and
distribution plan our team drafted for the client back in the
beginning of the process.

Synopsis

 A synopsis is a summary of a composition like a book,

movie, TV show, or academic paper. A synopsis is often
written but can also take verbal or visual form.
Synopsis
Example of
Cinderella
 The well-known fairy tale of Cinderella explores her
servant-like relationship with her cruel stepsisters and a
cruel stepmother. When a prince invites the whole family to
a ball, Cinderella tries to join them only to be knocked
down by her family. A fairy godmother visits her and dresses
her up to go to the ball, and the prince falls in love with
her. Losing her shoe at midnight, it becomes a hunt for the
prince to find his true love at the odds of her stepfamily.

Storyboard

 A storyboard is a visual representation of your video

sketched out. There are different storyboard software
options out there, but all you really need is a piece of
paper and some simple stick figures.
 It usually represents a subject of the shot, the shot type
and any movement the viewer will see. You can include any
information that will help you and others to create the
video. Ideally, a storyboard helps you think through the
visuals of what you want to capture.

Scenes and Shots

 If you want to use a storyboard, start with a script. Even a

basic script helps guide the overall direction your video will
take. It helps tell your story.
 Break your script into scenes and then break those scenes
into shots. Depending on the length of your video, you
could end up with a lot of scenes and shots.
Task-1

 Write synopsis
 Write script
 Write storyboard if possible
