Earlier many studies have been done on green procurement by reviewing environmental impact,

demographic variables, studying product life cycle etc. Different countries have followed the
trend of improved supply chain management procedure which is not currently known as green
supply chain management. Moreover, several models have been generated by researchers for
estimating green purchase behavior like exploratory factor analysis, structural equation modeling
etc. Min & Galle (1997) has gone through a study related to green purchasing activities and their
implications covering the following; product life cycle, waste control management, how to work
with different suppliers, Morton and New (1998) further added few policies regarding green
purchasing by finding its impact on environmental performance whereas Zsidisin & Hendrick
(1998) has discussed some environmental issues related to purchasing procedures. Kaiser (2001)
has discussed few major issues of healthcare organizations also suggesting the solutions with the
help of waste life cycle thinking. In best of my knowledge, these theories are not adopted in
Healthcare industries of Pakistan, so my concern is observe the role of green procurement in
health care industries of Pakistan and to check whether these are appropriate for this Industry or
not.

Many studies have been conducted on the topic of excess inventory globally. Past studies
show that causes of excess inventory vary, like poor forecasting, changes in demand, Bullwhip
effect, lack of information sharing which increase the cost and hurts the supply chain efficiency
.There is no research conducted on the topic of excess inventory in Pakistani scenario. Thus,
there is need of exploring the causes of excess inventory in pharmaceutical industry of Pakistan
and also possible counter measures to avoid and deal with excess inventory in order to increase
the supply chain efficiency.
In previous years, many studies have been conducted to find out the impact of
information technology on supply chain operations and these researches are done globally. The
results obtained from these researches showed positive impact of information technology on
supply chain operations. Researchers found out that information technology plays a vital role in
efficiently performing supply chain activities. It helps supply chain operations to be more
efficient, effective and chances of error decreases. In Pakistan, there is lack of research on this
topic in the Pharmaceutical industry. This research work is going to deal with the impact of
implementing information technology on supply chain day to day operations in pharmaceutical
industry in Pakistan.

In past studies many researchers found good impact on Organization’s performance due
to ERP implementation and some found no or bad response in comparison with the firms that
have not implemented ERP. In the best of my knowledge there is some data available on this
topic all around the globe but if we look around in Pakistani context, I couldn’t find any study
specifically in relation with Oil & Gas Industry of Pakistan. There is a need of research in this
frame of work to know the outback of this heavy investment. The study is going to be an
addition in this particular frame of work.
