Everything has its drawbacks. For instance, according to Mr.

Aziz, students
have little experience to bring to decisions about school as compared to
teachers. School councils may prove to be useless if their suggestions are not
going to be taken in consideration or valued.

There may be some issues that children do not understand and arguing on
problems like that can be a complete waste of time. Teachers are answerable to
parents about students’ education and that might not be possible because these
activities can be pretty distracting. Therefore, it is necessary to put education
first.

However, on the other hand, an enlightened approach is needed to make school

councils work. Student participation is widespread and well-regarded. Student
participation works when children are involved in real issues. Students can take
responsibility for difficult problems such as behaviour. More children will be
interested thus improving results and attendance. Students can learn how to look
at things from a distinctive and fresh perspective.

Furthermore, children can acquire skills such as problem-solving, negotiation,

communication and decision making. Therefore, student council can be useful
asset for schools simultaneously benefitting students and teachers as well.
