Mathematics Learning Experience for Grade 1 (C15)

Competency: Determines the days of the month using a calendar

Session 1: Find and Show Me!!

Materials:
• Large calendar of the current month
• Cut-outs of names of days
Procedure:
1. Teacher shows a big calendar to the learners.
2. Teacher distributes the cut-outs of the names of the days to the
learners.
3. Teacher calls out numbers randomly.
4. Learners identify the day by showing it to their classmates and
they will say something about it.
Note: Use a teacher-made calendar in Mother Tongue.
Session 2: It’s Showtime, Dance with Me!

Materials:

• mini-calendar
• upbeat music

Procedure:

1. Distribute a mini-calendar to the learners.

2. Let them walk around inside the classroom.

3. Play upbeat music and let them dance freely.

4. Call out numbers between 1-31 and randomly stop the music.

5. Learners will point out and show up the number being called.

6. Repeat procedures 2-5.

7. Ask the learners about their feelings while doing the tasks.
Session 3: Sort Me!

Materials:

• big calendar
• cut-outs of numbers 1-31 in sticky notes

Direction: Pagsunud sura an petsa nga 1-31 han Agosto. Igbutang ini

Session 4: Calendar Face- Complete Me!

Materials:

• mini-calendar
• cut-outs of numbers 1-31
• marker
• sticky notes

Procedure:

1. Divide the learners into small groups.

2. Provide them with an activity envelope with cut-outs of numbers 1-


31.

3. Let them arrange the numbers in the right order within the given
time. Remind them of the importance of collaboration.

4. Teacher gives a reward to the group with the highest number of


points.
Session 5: Let’s Sing Together!

Materials:

• Week and Month Song written in cartolina


• Cut-outs of names of days and months

Procedure:

1. Post the week and month song on the board/TV monitor.

2. Teacher and learners sing together the Week Song with the
tune of “Happy Birthday” and the Month Song, “Lubi-Lubi.”

3. Let them show up the cut-outs given to them as they mention


the names of the days and months.
