Procedure:
The students will engage students in a game called “the genius cap”. While the music is playing
the genius cap will pass around the class. When the music stops, the one who’s wearing the
genius cap will answer a question related to the last topic. After the game, the teacher will place
students in four groups. Each of the groups will be given simple puzzle pieces to be solved. The
first group to finish the puzzle will receive a prize. The teacher will now ask students to guess
the topic according to the puzzle formed. Then the teacher will now reveal the topic of the
lesson. The teacher will define the term time signature and identify the parts of the time
signature. The teacher will also define the top numbers of time signatures and show a table of
bottom numbers and their corresponding value. The students will get examples of time
signatures, for example, ¾ and 4/4, and the teacher will explain them. A time signature will be
shown on the smartboard and the teacher will explain the different time signatures with musical
notation in each. The beats will also be counted and clapped for a hands-on experience for
students. Students will now be given a musical notation and will be asked to count the beat.
Assessment:
Students will be given two short scores on the smartboard, and they will be asked to identify the
time signature that should be used for the first and second one. The teacher will ask students to

the first one 4/4 time signature and ¾ time signature for the second one.
