BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

(According to the client during a brief taking session with her).

On the month of march 2022, she was at her work place as an apprentice when a

friend of hers visited her and told her she met some persons that spoke to her about

a life changing opportunity, they said there is a company in France that is in need

of foreign workers that are willing to work with them, These set of persons told her

friend that they can help in taking them to France and also make arrangement with

the company to reserve slots for they will only have to pay for the travel cost after

they have started working with the company and when the company starts paying

them salaries.

According to her friend it was a good opportunity to change their lives and she also

thought about it and it seemed like a life changing opportunity.

After a few weeks her friend took her to meet these persons and form there

arrangements were made to take them out of the country.

She continued to say their expectations were cut short when they started seeing

things different from what they expected, she and her friend and some other girls

were taken through some illegal routes under very risky conditions until they

finally arrived at a destination, but it wasn’t France as they promised. It was

Malaysia.

9
Upon arrival they were split into different group and that was the last time she saw

her friend.

A woman came there to pick her up and she was taken to a place that looked like a

motel, according to her she said this was when she knew what it was and she

realized everything they told her was a lie there was no France, and no company.

She met some other girls there that had already settled for that kind of life, in fact

one told her that they will butcher her and sell her body parts if she tries to escape.

The “Big mama” as they called the woman in charge of the place called all of them

that newly came and according to her she said they must all carry the company’s

logo which is a tattoo of a butterfly on their laps and their backs.

She refused to do it and this was when her torture started she was locked in a

different room in the house, fed just once a day while she cries in pain from the

torture because she refused to allow the tattoo on her body.

After a few months of torture and hard work there she was able to escape to a local

police station there with the help of one of the girls in the house.

She got to the police station there and she narrated everything to them, where she

is from and what has happened to her so far, for a moment she felt like she was in

safe hands but her joy was cut short when the police officers there took her back to

her madam “The Big mama”

10
The police were working with her. according to her she was punished brutally and

taken back to the house, this time she was already giving up and was ready for the

worst.

But after a few weeks she got help from someone there who gave her a number to

call and told her that if she can get a phone and call the number then they can help

her, she was lucky enough to contact the number and she said the person sounded

like a Nigerian, she gave her details and also some things she could recognize

around that environment to use as landmark.

And that was how after a few days NAPTIP raided the house, some of the girls ran

away and others like her that were already tired of that kind of life were rescued, it

happened that the person she called was a NAPTIP agent and her information was

sent to their office in Malaysia.

NAPTIP is the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person; An

Agency that fights against human trafficking. This is how she was rescued and

brought back to Nigeria.

INTERVIEW WITH CLIENT WITH MISS B

March 6th, 2023.

On this day of our interview with miss B, she revealed the reason for her action as

she taught it was a way to a better life for her and her family, she was ignorant of

what awaits her there and it’s an experience she will never forget.

We introduced the COMMUNITY BEHAVIOURAL THEORY, this theory builds

upon understanding the relationship between one’s environment and behavior as

her experience affected her psychologically and therefore made a change in her

behavior, to effectively carry out this process we also introduced the principle of

acceptance and confidentiality. Theses principles helped to build trust between us

and the client as we made her understand that she was safe with us and we accept

people as they are without judgment (non-judgement), we also applied the

principle of Empathy here, this is putting ourselves in the clients shoes to show her

we understand how she feels.

good opportunity and she supported her daughter, only for them to bring her

daughter back to her at a very terrible condition because of the experiences she

went through.
